Ok, I just got an Extreme 3D Pro joystick [logitech] and I got setup with some help from http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27855 but fixed some things to fit me more comfotably.

The problem is, when I get into a jet or a helo and try to use the joystick, Axis 2 and Axis 0 are "backwards". When I want to steer left by twisting the joystick to the left, it turns right. The jet isnt much as a problem cause your not constantly stop and go but with the helo, you get all half assed backwards and crash.

I tried the invert mouse thing but that of course only works for the mouse. In the calibration, the joystick works fine

I have the same stick and have never had problems with the rudder, but my throttle does the same thing.  The calibration doesn't seem to be the problem for me, it is just how careful I am while mapping the controls in whatever game I'm in.

Here is my calibration then mapping routine:

Calibration:  Pretty straight forward, but before I start, I make sure the throttle is at about 50%.  When going through the various axes, I try to only move that axis, using the buttons on the base to signal that I'm finished and ready to move to the next step.

Mapping:  Again, start with hands off and throttle at 50% (approx).  That way the game isn't confused at to the start point, or which axis.

When it's time to map the throttle, I simply move it straight up (from 50%) and look to see that on screen it looks "backward", e.g. Speed Up:  Axis 3 -

i had the exact same problem when i first setup my controls on the joytsick. when you are setting it up in the game and you click on axis 2 left or right make sure you move the joystick the same dicrection.

If i have any problems with a joystick veering off course, i just next through the calibration process quickly and it fixes anything that may be wrong.

And if it still wrong its most likely the joystick that broken.

I'm not 100% sure if it is tied to the joystick functions, but you could always check and make sure the invert mouse option is off.

yes, as previously said, re-assign in game so that when it asks for right, you turn/tilt/twist right NOT left as is the instant reaction in most cases, hence UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT is the way it's normally done, i believe however that bf2 is right before left so things end up backwards, even i did it wrong first time i setup my joystick, it's easy to fix just re-assign as someone has already said

just to warn you after 6 (very helpful) months  my loggy packed up ...

it lost all calibration forwards and backwards ... basically it only register half backwars and 2x forwards,...
which means pulling up no longer happens ... Time to get me a saitek ..
