dynamic shadows and lighting med because i hate driving under the wires and seeing shadows race across my windshield making me think there is a chopper over head, everything else high @ 1024x768,  forced 2xQs AA
1 gig kingston hyperX on 2-3-3-5 timings  2- PNY Geforce 6600's  SLI, slightly overclocked

As somebody put it the other day it's a little like Legoland... but on the plus side there're no shadows for people to hide in

The long answer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-aliasing
An easier to follow guide: http://www.tweaktown.com/guides/601/the … index.html

The short answer is that the higher the setting, the smoother lines are (fewer jaggy edges), at the expense of performance.  If you have framerate to spare, turn it up.  In many cases, you'll find that a lower resolution with AA on will look better than just upping the resolution.  In my case, I can play at 1920x1200, OR I can play at 1600x1200 with AA and AF turned on and have better image quality to boot.  Since I'm using an LCD panel, anything above 60fps is lost to vsync anyway, so I just shoot for a good average framerate and dump any 'overhead' into increasing image quality.
