May not be the best thing to do. If you read ATI's website (and pretty much anybody's come to that) they almost always state that you should only install the new drivers if you are having a problem.
Last time I updated my drivers for my ATI card (Radeon 9550, so very similar) I ended up with artifacts everywhere and had to roll the driver back.
My personal advice, install the graphics drivers that came with your card, NOT the most up to date ones and see if that solves your problem.

Not sure if that is the best advice for a gamer. I know they say only install drivers if you are having a problem but each monthly ATI's Catalyst driver release improves various games in performance and also adds bug fixes. For someone who only uses the PC for email and internet thats fine, but if you game much at all you are nuts not to keep the latest driver installed (obviously there are exceptions like DoctorFruitloop's case).
As far as ATI drivers go Roger, I would recommend updating drivers every month when they come out. At that point if you have a problem with a new one you are only rolling back one version. There is also a great forum over at
www.driverheaven.net where you can find loads of info about hardware and video drivers.
