Didn't bother searching through the rest of the thread to see if it's mentioned, but the video's no longer available. Maybe they jumped on Google like they did South Park.

What i find amusing is that fact that 1000 years from now if humans are still around i'm sure he will be turned into some sort of God (Ron that is). 

I'm disappointed. No Scientologists to defend their lunacy here.

What's sad is that scientology scams people that aren't necessarily stupid, they just prey on people that are vulnerable.  They target people going through tough times and give them a "solution" to their problems.  People that are hurting want to believe what the scientologists are telling them, and I bet some of the counseling (not the fucked up beliefs) actually helps people, because simply talking to someone else about your problems is helpful.  Then they throw in all the alien bullshit, but by the time you get into the crazy shit, you've paid a lot of money and they have you on video confessing all of your deepest secrets so you'd be embarrased if you left the cult.  Then they steal more of your money.

while this subject is no more important than any other on D&ST, it is one where we might actually make a difference in terms of public awareness.  yes, there might not be much debate on the subject (not many scientologists among us) but its still important to know about this and for a short while i will sticky this so that it remains visible.

Scientology was almost banned in Australia years ago under the terms that it was a "quack" mediciene/science.  This would have been perfectly alright if Scientology had not suddenly changed their status to "religion" - thus making them protected by the constitution under the "freedom of association".

I drove past a scientology van a few months ago, and I just couldn't wait to get far, far away from it.

The Movementarians---I mean Scientologists are by a long shot very different from any long-standing religion so I believe that is why people don't group it with them. The fact that the very origins of the ideology can be traced back to a fiction writer within the last century doesn't bode well for it either. It may be that people know more than they would like to about it.

do you really not know the difference or are you just trying to play the role of "pissing against the wind" bad ass forum commentator?  have you even bothered to read any of the literature about scientologists (which is not written by scientologists)?

whereas any regligion can migrate towards becoming extremist or cult like, scientology is a pyramid scheme which became a cult which applied for "religious organization" status.  and all of this based on the work of a really bad science fiction writer (ever seen battlefield earth?) who took way too many drugs and invented stories about an alien named xenu, trans galactic dc-10's, nuclear volcanos and dead spirts called thetans.

if you ask me, i'd much rather believe in the spaghetti monster cause at least he isn't going to charge me hundreds of thousands of dollars to find out what i can read on wikipedia.
