Not a big fan of prebuilt systems. Build your own and get what you want for less..

Don't buy an Alienware.  Too much when you could easily build it yourself.

I would buy an Alienware PC if someone gave me the money to, I would never spend my money on them.

Lots of good info and advise here for you, acid...bottom line is whether or not you are comfortable with building your own that would stand up to Alienware.  Like SNAP said, it would be a huge drag if you bought a lot of high end parts (with the high end prices) only to fry the parts due to incorrect install or config.  I build my own and am comfortable with building a machine that will compete handily with any Alienware product but I don't pay for the Alienware name.  You could do the same as well if you are comfortable with building a killer rig and not worried about screwin it up.  Otherwise, buy from a reputable dealer...if it doesn't work properly, they are responsible and will fix or replace for free.  Good luck, bro.

They will let you build it online, and you can either have them ship it to you assembled or non-assembled.

A) no, am i right in saying that alienware are now built by Dell?

Dell wrote:

Alienware will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary and maintain its own product development, product marketing, sales, technical support and other operations as well as brand. The management and founders of Alienware will continue to operate the company as a standalone unit of Dell.
Dell bought Alienware, but it still operates independantly.

I bought an Alienware.  You can build something cheaper, but I am lazy.

It was also nice to just order, and have it delivered.  I haven't had to use thier tech support, so I don't know how great it is, but it does have a program to auto-report errors.

I've always built my computers and I will never buy an Alienware because they're too expensive.
