its summer now, hot room.. cooling issues

okay so i run an amd 3000+ i think and it doesnt heat up too much, but my new ram and graphics card (2 x 1 GB patriot and pny 6800 gt) heat up quite a bit... i'm in a hot upstairs room in my house and the cards and chips get pretty hot. I have everything in a thermaltake tsunami dream which has fairly good 'air conditioning' if you will, and i have 2 fans on both of my hard drives and a exhaust fan blowing air from my 6800 out the back. Now for the question... besides collecting more dust, would it be bad for my system if i took off the side of the computer and put a ten inch house fan next to it to cool everything off? I've tried it before and it considerably lowered my temps and i really dont have anywhere else to go cooling wise

( i dont want to move everything to a different room, 7.1 surround sound sucks to move, i dont want to buy a water cooling system, too much work/money and i would like a better cooling fan on my processor but i'm stuck with a socket A and good cooling fans arent easy to come by )

if you have any other suggestions feel free, i'm dying... and sweating a lot...

If it has exposed RAM chips, try one of the RAMsinks on it. Maybe try one of these video card coolers too: http://www.svc.com/cardcooler.html or http://www.coolerguys.com/videocooler.html

yeah ram is already covered and i'm shooting the hot air out the back (on the graphics card)

Shouldn't hurt anything. If you're really worried about it you could get some sort of air filter from Home Depot or something. Like a furnace filter, but get one that allows as much air through as possible and stick it on the side of your computer, in front of the fan. Maybe even punch a couple holes in it if there isn't enough air moving through. If you really want to get creative, you could always duct from the fan, through the filter, to your computer. You could use tin or even just cardboard, to direct the air straight into the filter. If you just had the fan to filter, you may get a lot of "splashed" air coming back. Just a thought.

In the past I've scavenged large 6"/8" fans from really old systems (8088's) and put them in my computer where I had room to move more air through, I think I even cut a couple more holes in the case to help.

Only thing I can think of is to keep the ambient temperature as cool as possible. Leaving the side panel off of the computer can help... but all the noise is going to escape from there. Your idea of placing a house fan near it to blow air in will likely help mask the noise output somewhat.

There's really no other alternative to keep the parts cooled, especially if the ambient temp of your room is high. The only way to keep the system cooled effectively is to keep the ambient temperature as low as possible so that the air intake for the computer will have cool air coming in. Keeping a system cooled with air only is only as effective as the ambient air temperature surrounding it.

Failing that, a windowbox air conditioner works wonders...for your PC's health, if not your power bill. I've also heard air filters mentioned in this thread. They're not necessary, but you won't have to dust your computer out so much.

You can also try water cooling, which is less dependent on ambient temperature than air cooling.

It won't hurt anything. You will probably have to clean out the case more often, and make sure some critters with 4 legs, or more, haven't decided to set up house in your case.

i did it last summer when it was really hot. helped quite a bit.

now i just have the side off, only fan fixed to case is in front of the hds all other ones are jury rigged so that they blow at the problematic areas (one fixed to the bottom of the 1900xt blowing air at the heatsink and the northbridge, one attached directly to the power regulators, one near the ram, one blowing at me, ...). keeps everything nice and cool

And when you are too hot let a fan blow at you

hope you don't own a cat or small dog. That could spell Havok. Go with the window AC. My buddy did and it made all the dif. It will help cut back on those unsightly sweat stains also.

okay i've been researching that method and it seems kinda iffy... cuz #1 wouldnt water condense in your system, causing it to short everything out.. and #2 it gets rid of the hot air out the back... so it just heats up my rooms
