I just log in, join a game and my mouse and keyboard are both on but neither one functions except for alt+tab. Is it a hardware problem?

I had the same problem before...I don't remember if I just had to restart it to get it to work...if you restart and it still doesn't work I think you have to re-install the whole thing...come to think of it I think I did have to re-install it...check the instruction manual or the product support that comes with the game...hope that helps and good luck...

I get that problem, my keys won't respond until i hit it so hard. and my mouse moves me all of a sudden. when im in a chopper my missiles fire automatically.

The SAME thing start for me this evening as well. I suspect that EA has made some server code modification WITHOUT telling anyone.
If it was ONLY me having this problem - they could reasonably state that something on MY machine had changed. However, since NUMEROUS people are having the exact same problem at the same exact time - it implies that EA has changed something on the server.
BTW - Did u reinstall yet?? And did that fix it?

press escape, and reset your controls...that happened to me twice.
Does this mean when you join a server and spawn, you're stuck on the ground, can't move, can't shoot, can't pan cam, can't weapon-switch, can't use vehicles, can't use stationary positions, but can type, use spawn screen, use scoreboard, use squad screen, Alt-Tab, use Esc, use VoIP, and pretty much do everything useless and nothing useful?

STOP!!
Damn, its a simple solution!
All you needed to do was go into your controls, and click the reset to default! For some reason, BF2 thinks its funny to randomly remove all key bindings

yeh its a real easy fix.
its also been covered plenty here. a few mins searching could have saved a reinstall.
