I've been using MB/Mouse and got quite good. Heard about others saying a Joystick was better so I bought a Saitek Cybog Evo... getting better with it, but I find while in a dog fight I have to go back to KB/Mouse for a minute so I can get away and take out the enemy!

- Is a joystick REALLY that helpful in flying a plane?
The trick is to never have to avoid missles in the first place. Remember the Matrix? "So what, I'll be able to dodge bullets?" "No, because when you're ready, you won't have to." Well, we won't be stopping any missles mid-flight, but it's still true. Always fly high, above 4-500 feet. know where AA vehicle CPs are! If you get someone on your tail, and you're not in an f-18 or j-10, immediately do a hard turn with afterburners. and not a clean straight turn, even my grandmother can keep up with that. For instance, do a loop, but turn a little bit too. Do sudden reversals of direction at the right time. Remember that your main objective is to get outside of their HUD, so they can't lock on to you. A split S, half a loop up, turn around, do another half a loop up and then straight down, is a decent and easy maneauvre.killaer wrote:

Google some websites with dogfighting maneauvres. A friend gave me the manual for Jane's USAF, it's got lots of useful tips in it. Just read up on some maneauvres so you know what you're doing instead of randomly turning.
If another jet locks onto you, and you're in an f-18, do a loop straight upwards. I am yet to see this fail. Note that this doesn't work against AA vehicles/sites! If you're in a J-10, turn as hard as you can with afterburners. If you get locked on to by AA vehicles/sites, drop flares, and get the f*ck out of there! The range of AA vehicles/sites isn't so far, so if you drop your flares right, you'll be gone before they can get through flares. Remember that flares alone don't stop missles. use them cleverly, for instance, do a barrel roll while launching them, so they get launched upwards and thus stay in the sky longer.

I dont use a joystick, i use only mouse and keyboard. I have a joystick and have tried it out a couple times but i just dont feel like i can move the same... i find that i can be more precise with a mouse then i can with a joystick.
If your stats are correct you are the best Aviator Pilot ive ever FKN seen well done m8Stun_Gun wrote:

I only use keyboard, I have never used mouse. I have tried joystick (A Saitek Cybog Evo) but I don´t know what settings a shall have.I don´t think I have problem in dogfights, I don´t use mouse so I never run out of room. And the only time I lose in a dogfight is when I battle a J-10(50/50 ratio). The only advantage the joystick have over the kb in my opinion is speed control.
yes
it takes time to get used to but you can be better with a joystick IMO. plus its waaaay more fun
i have a Saitek Cyborg Evo and its pretty good, pleased with it.

it all depends on your preference.
But if your going to use a mouse and keyboard you MUST increase the sensitivity. Otherwise you'll get pwned all round.

Is a steering wheel helpful in driving a car?
Really good post Sarge, those are exactly what to do when you get locked onto in AA, especially true for each individual plane. I used to climb and release flares in a j-10 on wake, but AA seems to hit more when u climb. I dont kno how to explain the manuever but you push up/left or up/right on the joystick and it does an off-center barrel roll with your nose pointed up. I find that, with flares, will work 90% of the time.SargeV1.4 wrote:

+1 for you

personal preference really :\
I Only use keyboard...
A half decent Joystick will really help you, you can xecute more complex manouvers owing to the fact that youcan issue multiple key pressing commands by simply moving a stick.
Upto you but I'd buy a cheap £15 Stick and try it out, put it on Ebay if you dont like it.
