Ok here's the scoop.
I had 2*256MB and 1*512MB RAM in there, it worked fine.  It is PC3200 184Pin DDR SDRAM.

I go buy this  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820145575
Which looks like it has the same configurations.

I take out all the old memory and put in the 2 new ones in the correct slots.

I plug in my computer, it beeps for a bit, and it seems to be on, but nothing shows up on the monitor.

So, I try putting the 2*256MB sticks and then the 2*1GB sticks in the right slots.

Still beeps, still wont show.

So I take out the new RAM, put the old back in, NO BEEPING, and it works fine.

Why won't the new RAM work?

Thanks.

may be a voltage or timing issue.  You may have to put the OLD RAM in, go into the BIOS, set the proper voltage and timing settings, power off (DON'T REBOOT), put the new RAM in, then power back on ...

also, this is PARITY RAM you purchased which needs to be installed in pairs.  This typically means that you have to install it every other slot.  It maybe as simple as that.  check your MOBO for info on how to put in the RAM

My new RAM is a little higher in the voltage, so how could I go change that in the BIOS?

as you say correct slots you could of put them in the wrong ones. i had the same problem. the same sticks of RAM have to go in the matching slots and the onther RAM in the other.

my matching slots were the 1st slot and the 3rd. with the 2nd being on its own.

anyway try that and see if it works.

BIOS varies wildly.  I can't really say where it is in your particular BIOS set up, sorry.  Is this a prefab or a home built rig?

SPECS for old RAM: DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V

SPECS for new RAM: DDR PC3200 • CL=2 • UNUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.75V

I have a Prefab, a Dell Dimension 4600.

Let me get the BIOS version..

BIOS version is A12

you may have a bad stick of memory, memory thats not compatible with your motherboard for various reasons, check with your mother board vendor...some mother boards have issues with some brands of memory. your motherboard is not POST ing (Positive On Self Test)....there is many reasons why a motherboard wil not POST. But you claim you changed your memory and this started, when taking out new memory and replacing with the old everything is ok. Look for a Bios update for your motherboard or take the memory back for a new brand

don't bother on the BIOS version, it won't help and ultimately won't really matter.  If it's a prefab system (by which I mean DELL, HP, etc) the BIOS is probably fairly dummied up and you may not have that setting.  I think the culprit is probably memory placement.

A12 is a dell name, so you have a Dimension probably, or an XPS if you're lucky ...

Inside my comp its like this

This is how it originally was...

////////////////(white coded) 512MB

////////////////(black coded) 256MB
////////////////(white coded) EMPTY

This is how I set the new RAM up...

hmm. put them in the black slots and try it then. if it fails try one in white and one in black...

if that fails youve either got a goosed stick or your motherboard doesnt like it.

looking at the specs on that link, they seem to match the old RAM specs you had.  I would bet money on the fact that you need RAM in the same colored slots.  There should be a sticker on the inside of the Dell box with a diagram on it

They were in the same colored slots

Why wouldn't my Mobo like it that's so weird, it's the exact same specs and all.

Dual Channel RAM can function on single channel (just not to its capacity), I don't think that would be the issue ...

This is from crucial.com, so I'm guessing this is my OLD memory

Is that dual channel?

your OLD RAM is Dell relabelled house brand, but that RAM you have in the pic appears to be DC, at least it is sold in pairs.

according to Dell's website on your PC, RAM is installed in pairs.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod … u=A0288601

It would be rare and indeed surprising to see bad Corsair RAM.  You certainly selected an excellent brand.  did you use the Corsair configuration tool?

Here is Corsair's site:

http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/xms.html

Notice the 3200's and the 3200c2's.  Ultimately your issue may lie in that you have the C2's and not the standard 3200's.  I don't know why this should matter unless it is a matter of what I initially suggested which is voltage and timing settings in the BIOS.  I would ask Corsair what the known compatability is with that stick as their configurator yields a different option then either of those.

if u are 100% sure its installed in the corerct DIMM's then its one of 2 things. Bad stick of memory or compatability issues.
