As most of you have discovered, the bf2 maps are from real places. But I don't know exactly were, I'd like to know that its kind of interesting to see on Google Earth how it looks in the really world. I've only found Wake Island so if anyone knows something please let me know. XD
That would be cool to know, with relevence to the game I mean
Songhua Stalemate is on the Songhua River in China.
Dalian is a real place but I don't know if they have a nuclear power plant.
The Gulf of Oman is a real place, the Gulf of Oman map is somwhere on its coast.
Daqing is a real place but once again I don't know if they have 4 big oil tanks.
Wake Island is a real place, the 2007 fight isn't yet.
I think Dragon Valley exists on the Yellow River in China.

AFAIK, karkand and mash dont exist
Pretty cool that you knew all of that. +1 for being educated . It turns out that Daqing Oilfiled is the largest oilfield in China. Click the link belowk30dxedle wrote:

But that is pretty cool that these maps we play really do exist and are real places.
so its fair to say that they probably HAVE got at least 4 big oil tanks then.... eh?<KoS>Audio wrote:

Kubra also exists, but again can't remember where.
El-Mahalla El-Kubra is a city. Any relation to Kubra...? I don't know.

Oh and I think Warlord from SF is supposed to be Somalia, ala Black Hawk Down although you fight the Arab looking insurgents and Britsh SAS so that's where the comparisons end I'm afraid...

Let's see...
The LHD-2 Essex definitely exists, so there's your Iron Gator.
There's definitely at least 1 airport somewhere in Syria, so Night Flight exists...
Assuming "Fallujah" in Warlord means Fallujah, Iraq, then yes it exists, but I don't know if there's a palace there.
The Great Wall exists.
Operation Harvest is set in Pennsylvania, which exists.

I think all the city maps do not exist.
I searched for them but I don´t succeed :-(
If I win a lot of money I want to build Karkand with each blade of grass.
It must be great to fight there with gotcha guns!
(All invited!)
k30dxedle is a clever guy...(hats off!)
I mean the EXACTLY townscape of course...

As I said, ignoring the teams (SAS vs Insurgents), I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be Somalia from the film Black Hawk Down. For a start it's about a "warlord" which is a moniker usually given to African troublemakers and there is a crashed blackhawk in the middle of the map (near TV station). I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's the premise....uber73 wrote:

I want to make a paintball field of Karkand.
Gulf of Oman is next to Saudi Arabia
I think karkand does exist, becuse I think I saw a picture (or two) when I searhed on Google. There were Apaches in the sky to. On the other hand, why not just ask EA/DICE? But then again we don't want do disturb them or they'll make another mistake with the patch "1.3 bug fixer"
I tried this myself once, but didn't have much luck. Came closest with Daqing Oilfields (see below).
Dalian is a city in Manchuria, not too hard to find. I couldn't find any costline that resembles the one on the map though.
Daqing is also a city in Manchuria. I know the place below is close to Daqing but the similarity could be a coincidence. It's at latitude 46.55965, longitude 124.78736.
edit: I think I found it with Nasa World Wind.

the actual layout of the maps are not actually accurate to anything in real life but some of the cities are real like posted before. I'm sure the maps in real cities are not actually based on what the actual area looks like in real life (from Sattelite or above pictures)
Dalian Plant
This map is based on the real location of Dalian in eastern China. The map bears some resemblance to the real Dalian, such as the three bits of land that fork out. However, the area around Dalian is not mountainous, and the power station hasn't been built yet.
Songhua Stalemate
The map is loosely based on the Songhua River in China, which happens to be relatively close by to Dalian, which is used in the Dalian Plant map.
Gulf of Oman
This map is based on the real Gulf of Oman in Oman, though the exact location it is supposed to represent is unknown.
Wake Island
The map is based on Wake Island in the North Pacific Ocean. It is a good representation of the real island, it is even split into three smaller islands, linked together by bridges. The airstrip is in a similar location as on the real island, but the real one stretches far into the part of the island with the Beach and South Base flags.
And if you have Google Earth, you can find Wakey on these coordinates: 19 17 N, 166 39 E

this is the Vyrag in dalian, chinese administraion bought it, but it could inspire for a new map (chinese vs. rus, some new sf map??!?)
anyone found information about some real place called sharqi? if it would be real, i want to visit it, check in the hotel for a week, watch the construction site never get finished, take a trip to the surveillance post, look for some bistros, and take some pictures of myself walking through the city entrance.
