Well the last time my computer  has felt really slow and I probably have masses of unused programs installed here somewhere but mainly just play bf on it.

Would formating the computer improve performance for BF and the computer overall?

I just did a format on mine and for some reason it has improved the login time dramtically.  When I click to log in to my account I get the main screen in about 5 secs now, it was closwer to 30 before.  I thought that was dependant on your connection so I don't know why it's helped but it has....

k.. killed my previous thread and will post here:

But, i've never gone through the process of reformatting my HD, and have heard it often said that for a gaming rig, reformating every 6-10 months is a good idea to help keep performance up.

I have 2 HD's, one with all my games and such on it, (my 10k raptor) and then my normal 7200rpm sata with my OS and such on it. I know when i reformat that i basically wipe my HD, so would it be reccomended i move my files/music to my secondary HD and reformat my primary with the OS? And when i reformat, i can just do my main drive and keep all my files on the other? Or would it be reccomended i reformat both (the raptor is only about 2 months into use, so i dont think it needs it that bad), and back up all my files and such on DVD's and reinstall them?

Also, i am running windows XP media center edition (don't blame me, it came on the computer and i am lazy), i just wanna also use this opportunity of reformatting to go back to normal windows XP...

you will need to reinstall any programs/games as when you reinstalled the OS your registry goes with it.

just backup your important files on a dvd and format both drives.  I would also put your OS/games on the raptor and use the SATA as the other drive... it only makes sense that way.

Make sure you got the restore disks. Most store-bought computers have a option to create your own restore disks.

I was going to say the same thing......

Get anything you want to save off the drives.  Then wipe them both.  Reinstall the OS and BF2 on the Raptor....NOTHING else on there.....and everything else on the 7200 drive....

I just built a computer and did just that - my raptor has only the os and bf2 and it loads FAST....I clog up my other drive with other crap I don't care about as much.

You should also defrag it every couple weeks, run adaware to get rid of data miners etc. as well....that can slow you down.  I don't even surf with my home PC and I still get data miners just from playing BF online.

You don't need to reformat if you're willing to spend a little time to LEARN about your computer.
First, you can fix the delayed "connecting to account" problem by deleting your BF2 profile from your local computer.
Second, to fix your computer running slowly you should install and run both spybot and ad-aware.  You really get riddled down with junk when browsing pron on your IE without doing any of the microshaft updates.
