hey all.. im gonna be ordering a dell laptop real soon and am gonna clear are the bloatware off of it. i was thinkin of trying OS X on it. Is it possible? I have a source for a disc so thats not a problem. Im just wodnering if theres a tutorial anywhere that would cover any poss. problems or how to do it. thanks

I've used several before, I hate them. Plus everyone and their mom has one. A lot of games are unsupporting of them too. Unless you're getting a one of those hardcore PowerMacs, the other ones are only good for normal computing because they don't get Viruses. Plus they sometimes consist of only the monitor so they save a lot of space. I guess they're not so bad if you use them for casual computing.ExecutionerStyle wrote:

you can run os x on a pc but with the emulation software is runs at like 18 percent (i think)of its capable speed.

pcs are cheaper, macs are not. who wins? the pc.
I helped marlboroman82 (on these forums) get it going on a P4 dell desktop. We work together and did it as a little side project. At that time, all the answers could be found at osx86project.org...but the site has been shut down. It boils down to this, you need to have a Pentium processor that supports SSE3. You can use cpu-z to find out if your's does or not. Also, you need to have a copy of OS X Tiger for Intel...one that has a patch/crack so everything will work. PM me and I can hook you up with that ;-)...Also, if you need help with the install, I would recommend you PM marlboroman82. I hope this helps.

Anyway, just get a Macbook or a Macbook Pro, with the crappification of the formerly IBM Thinkpad series my next laptop will be a Macbook. (pro or not, undecided)

Blech, we had to use thinkpads last year. A slow ass 1.3GHz Celeron M in each and every one of them. At least they had built-in wi-fi unlike the older thinkpad my dad used to have before he got his new awesome 1.7GHz Presario. They call it the thinkpad because it makes you think about how Dell could make such a crappy boring laptop. I hate Macs, but I must admit they pwn the shit out of PC's for video and visual editing; pretty much anything art related should be done on a Mac. But for gaming, PC's are where it's at. Why the hell would you want to go with OS X anyways? Mac OS's are boring and mundane - if you want the little liquid toolbar, you can download it you know

lol, it would be pretty cool and funny to see school computers running Vista. Of course the odds of that happening in Prince George's county are unlikely. Although the school system blows all of it's money on computers so maybe so.
