Ranking Up - Psychological ponderings.

If u are like me, u will have a benchmark in your head of a "respectable" rank to attain. Last night, i reached my first "silver" rank.. 1st Lieutenant. I figured, that... once i reached this new rank, life would be grand, as now all the punters on the battlefield would see a big shiny bar where there used to be some nondescript piece of goldish tat (sorry lower rankers... )

Since ranking up.. i have already set my sights on captain as the respectible rank. Having found myself in a no-mans land between awards... (other than peoples medallion, im at LEAST 30-50 hours away from most others which im playing for..) i find myself considering playing to power rank-up. Made it from 2nd Lieut to 1st Lieut in about 4 weeks (15000points). Now, i work 5 days a week, have a (very understanding wife), and play most nights and weekends, and consider 15000 in that time period quite decent.

I propose this hypothesis, in the form of an exam question:

"Ranking up is more addictive than crack". Discuss.

Are u just like me? Do u play for the fun, the prestiege, or the awards?

uber73, man, I totally agree! ranking up great and having a shiny rank is very important! I am a 2nd Lt. now and I think it's a cool rank (the "first silver rank" as u put it).

k, i think the game is wayy more addicting than ranking up... but that is just me.

dude, with an attitude like that, u are clearly a ball bag. if i was to look at your stats, i would notice that u have played almost 70 hours of kubra dam.. that is enough to make anyone retarded. dont knock me fow how i CHOOSE to play bf2 - kark is competitive and entertaining.. and dont make a dick out of yourself for being closetted in your own opinion.

One of the things that does keep me going is ranking up, but it also gets to be a mental block, especially at this 30k rank up..

I enjoy ranking up, and I like the way all the stats are kept track of. It kinda gives you something to look back over, see how you're progressing, and so on.

At the moment, I'm stuck in the long, long journey that is First Sergeant, so I won't be ranking up anytime soon. And I've gotten most of my Veteran badges, but since I try and keep my kit-times fairly level I'm miles away from the Expert ones. This also means I won't be getting too many awards anytime soon.

So, while I'm stuck for drum-rolls at the moment, I'm still enjoying the game. It's still great to get onto a server with a couple of mates and dominate the map 'cause you're the only ones working as a coordinated team. And if I'm on my own, it's time to clock up some hours as Sniper, or in a jet.

So, yeah, the awards are cool. But even without them, I can have a great time. They are basically the icing on the cake, nice to look at, but no real substance to them

I couldn't agree more - For over a year now I've been addicted to ranking-up. I'm now looking forward to 180k so I can make General and past that to 200k for four star General.

Also, if you think ranking-up is like crack then chasing the digital BLING! is like heroin. Every day I'm looking for my next fix on how I can get a medal or a ribbon. I'm smacking my arm right now thinking that I only need two experts, one ribbon, and one medal before I have every thing there is - I guess it's rehab for me after that

I was aiming for shiny medals, badges and not-so-shiny-but-still-fancy ribbons while I waited patiently for this Master Sergeant thing to end. But I recieved all awards I can get with the time I've put in, so I guess it's just about the K and per round points.

Uber - I know where ya coming from on this and I agree with your statement. We have done the "is bf2 better than sex" and I'd always go for that kinda crack before bf2, Ive never tried the drug crack and don't wanna. I suppose both kinds of crack are addictive so you can class them both as drugs, too much or too little of either can make you flip out.

I play for points and promotion but to try and be better than the last game I had. If there was such an option of would you prefer to play with your mate and have no promotions in the game or would you like to play on ya own but can earn promotions I would always choose the mate and no promotion option, this tells me that I play for fun before points. Thank christ for that 'cos I'm shit, but am gettting better.

I too have an understanding mrs and she knows which crack I prefer the best. Congrats on your silver bar, im about 7-10 days away depending on game time.

i got to 2ndLT and was like, thats it ive had enough my rank 0wnz now i am going to relax a bit, buuuuuuuuuuuuuut it didnt work out like that, i am now thinking 15k to next rank, great! i bashed 5000points out the way over the weekend so shouldnt be long before i get my silver bar.

Expert sniper specialst
Expert assault specilaist
Expert medic specialist
Exper air defence
Veteran Anti-Tank specialist
Veteran support
