Those are the exact sticks I have and they are awesome; you should definitely get them.

Actually, I never had any problem using just 1GB of RAM.  Only thing I noticed adding another gig was that map load times got shorter and you didn't get the occasional freeze while panning your view around a large map (say, a sniper on Sharqi 64 up in the crane).   The main thing I found was to make sure your video setting weren't to high.  I turned down my lighting, shadows, and water effects from high to medium (using a GeForce 7800) and suddenly had practically no chop outside of the above situation.

Now, if you're able to get the 2GB for a good price, there's no reason not to get it.  I got some Kingston 1GB sticks on sale at my local Best Buy about a month a go, they were only $10 more than the 512 sticks that week.

i was thinking about doing this as well, i avg about 35FPS on high settings with my x800 right now but it can lag at times. what kind of performance increase would i see with an additional 1GB?
depending on your AA settings, AA needs (especially antialised geometrics) a lot CPU power and RAM, u can still lag occasionally using 2GB and playing at 1280x1024@6xAA. i am absolutely with Blizzard36, loading time changed, that made the main difference for me, but with 2GB i was also able to have some decent game with AA settings turned on.

Your gameplay won't change much, it's more like tweaking your Battlefield, my two cents.

The RAM you want to buy is CAS2 quality RAM. You can't do better.
Good brand and goog CAS latency... don't think, just buy... I have CAS 2 memyry by OCZ and since I bought it I'm always the first into the server (I have minimal loading times...) very helpfull if you want to pilot a jet these days. Also my Ping is around 8-15.

Indeed.
I heard that you don't even notice any difference in BF2 with 4 gigs than you would with 2GB.

Indeed.  It would actuallly be slower than 2GB because at 4GB, your memory timings will be insanely high... I'm talking like 5-5-5-10 timings.

err not sure about that... but heard windows crashes a lot after 4GB... i think ur talking about 2T command rate.

yeah i think so too. AMD's memory controler cannot run 4 dimms in dual channel @ 1T, it forces it to 2T. The timeing however should be those of the slowest RAM module found.

the reason why 4 GB RAM in windows does not work properly is due to the restrictions of 32bit. The maximum that windows can "see", even if there is more installed, is about 3.5 GB. With 64bit OS this value changes to something like a few Terrabytes.

EDIT: to the actual question: yes get 2 gigs, it really helps BF2, more is not necessary (BF2 needs a bit less tham 900MB when maxed + 400-600MB for windows + ? for other programs)

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

2 gigs also changes Windows Vista from being a clunky piece of bloatware into a pretty damned good OS.

Another benefit of using 2 gigs instead of 1 gig or 512 is that the music stops playing just as soon as you exit BF2, rather than many seconds later.

I play with 512MB, life sucks.  Lags like a bitch.  Getting 1 gig soon.

Ugh, I hate when it does that whenever I exit, it has to take an entire minute or more to realize that i've stopped playing BF2.
