I wanted to upgrade my memory from 1GB to 2GB or maybe 3GB and had a question.  Here are my specs:
PentiumĀ® D Processor 940 with Dual Core Technology (3.20GHz, 800FSB)
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 2DIMMs

If I wanted to upgrade, do I go with another 2x512 chips such as this
"PNY VERTO 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail",

or can I go with 2x1GB chips like these
"PNY OPTIMA 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model D22GX42OPT - Retail  " and have a total of 3GB?

Thanks for your input.

The links will not let me go directly to the items, sorry.

3GB is the best, but if ur going to buy 2 X 1GB... it would be best if u buy ddr2 667 or ddr2 800... i would buy G.skill ones since its only 200-240 dollars for 2GB of ddr2 800. ddr2 533 is going to be ur bottleneck

best if u go 2 x 1GB ddr2 800 and use the 533 sticks as back ups

yep. they run faster in pairs. assuming your dual bus, why not just get 4 1gigs? Youd be set for awhile.

My system will only support DDR2 533 or 667.

Get 2x1GB DDR2 667. Sell your remaining DIMMs or keep them as spares. For now, there's not much reason to get over 2GB.

I just want to find something that will work, and if I go with my first 2 choices, I can get a real good deal on the price, like $30 for 1GB.

sadly that is never possible. i would see like 70 for ddr2.

that is one of the best. sadly u cant use their ddr2 800 module which is wierdly cheaper...
