Yeah! I forgot about those...they kicked ass.bmb|danCer wrote:

I say buff the arty. It doesn't have nearly the killing radius it should have or the armor penetration. Give me more than just standard HE to use. Like many things rendered in this game (like the Abrams), the versions they use are pathetic, dumbed down verssions of the real thing.
But I still play it, because it's a game. I know what real life arty does, and if we had it in-game, there would be a game!
Self propelled is balls, towed howtizers for life!! Better range because towed peices can utilize higher powder charges than self propelled with less danger to the crew.

nice one the "arty" from desert combat was crap because you needed to aim way up to hit a target right infront of you,
but a good idee thoug

Well, you didn't want to hit something standing right in front of you, wouldn't you.vassili wrote:

Then it would be like in the Mine2 movie
But if u had a good Spottingteam you would have good chances to rip the infantry apart
When I saw the thread title I pictured the icon that pops up on the screen of a guy ziplining across the map.. SUre looks like a gun moving across the map to me...
I can see it now.. When you run out of ammo, set your fun to "Self Propelled" ad launch it at an enemy!
Fwhat its worth, I like the Idea of Mobil Manned Artilery guns.

Dont you think, that by taking artillery away from the commander...his job would be even more boring than it is now? Thats the only fun thing about a commander - raining artillery down on loads n loads of sukkas below. Unless you really enjoy spotting for an entire round???
Ok, the odd vehicle drop onto a heli can be amusing, but its not a replacement for artillery. Thats the only thing I fear about taking out artillery from a commanders use - the whole position would just become redundant.
I always liked the idea in BFV, with the arty cannons on a hill facing towards another flag like on Ia Drang. You'd bring up your binoculars, spot em "Charlie Spotted!!", and then anyone manning the arty had to line up the target and fire your shells at them. It took practise to get it to line up properly and to hit the target, but it was great fun.
And after a minute, the target would disappear and you would require another "spot" via the binoculars.
Now THAT was fun. Imagine a squad manning the arty, and the squad leader with the binoculars spotting enemies for his squad to arty the hell out of
At least then, spec ops wouldnt be limited to only 1 UAV and 1 Sat dish to blow up - since they would be losing out on 2 or 3 targets to destroy with mobile arty such as the MLRS.
If you had that on some maps, such as Songhua on the top ridges or maybe Mashtuur at the gas stations, it would work wonders.
For every kill made by the arty, the spotter would get +1 for a "driver kill assist" and the person using the arty, would obviously get +1 kills.
Or maybe even, allow the Scan via a commander to show up for the people using the arty, and they then have those as targets, and have 30secs to shoot at them for. Something like that would be ace.

Why not have both? Just like tanks and current arty ....
Heh. They need to make 128-player "BF:TOTAL WAR" that includes everything from every past BF game (including DC), on maps that are twice the size. That would be NUTS!!!!1
But leave out the SCUD. I hated the fuckin SCUD.

wow, that is a good idea actually, hope EA will do that.
that would be fun iif you could man the arty and fire it maualy
The developers tried to base it on real artillery (I've never played the game, but this is done by real life cannoneers). The reason for aiming it up high is because even though the lowest powder charge can be divided into smaller charges, there's only so smal that you can go. Even that tiny little green bag has a minimun range that goes pretty far. So, to make up for this, the cannons are aimed up high to allow for the arc to come down closer to the piece.vassili wrote:

There's also direct fire missions, where you use the biggest charge you've got so the round goes as straight as you can get it to. The charge 8 stick is a crazy mofo though, that thing makes you heart skip when it goes off and pushes an entrenched 16,000 lb howitzer back about 5 feet... The concussion wave slaps you like a pissed off pimp too. Damn I miss my M198 sometimes.
Anyway, hope that helped to explain the high angle missions you did. It just ried to simulate reality. Too bad you didn't have the direct fire option as well though.
