well for all the ppl who get kicked to the desktop when pressing JOIN GAME
(maybe someone said that be4... i didn't saw that..)
just select the auto ready button and when u join server in
the first time DONT press join game!! wait till it will take u in
it works for me hope it will help ya guys

Ive actually found, that upon first loading the game and joining a server...it crashes without fail. When I reload the game...perfect. It loads fine - on any map, on any server.

Once you have joined a server (I have found anyway), provided you stay on it and follow the map cycle - it will never crash so long as you dont close down BF2. I also often let the Join screen appear, wait about 10-15 seconds for the HD light to finish flashing, and then join - less chance of crashing Ive noticed.
