I'm going to upgrade to an x1600pro tomorrow from my old x700 (getting it at bargain prices ). I'd like to know if anyone could tell me what kind of performance they're getting with an x1600pro. keep in mind that my system specs are:

amd 64 3000+ (2 ghz)
1GB OCZ Platinum (with all the low timings, although that makes about .2 fps difference)
Zalman zm-400b (400 watt/16-32 amps)

How much FPS difference will it make and what kind of settings will I be able to run BF2 on? I'll also be putting Zalman vf700 cooling on it, wich is about the size of a small country

Any other (better) suggestions?

Thanks,

-Sarge

dunno about the card but maybe you want to upgrade the cooler to a vf900. This is the newer version and has improved mounting and cooiling (but probabely the 1600 wont need it; i just dont know anything about this card)
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Just bought the x1300 256mb AGP card. Upgraded from the 9550 stealth. Made a world of difference and I couldnt beat it for the price. Not too tech savy when it comes to fps and stuff but have been playing with the settings alot and find that the card runs well with most setting on med except dyn lighting, have to keep that off or I lag very bad.

You should see a good improvement.

That card's proven to be very powerfull for it's specs at FS2004.

Don't get an X1600, its a 512MB and its a 128-bit card. NOT GOOD AT ALL.

x1600pro is a good buget card, but make sure you get the 256MB version.
The card cannot use 512MB so it only causes extra latency making the card slower.

AGP or PCIx16? AGP uses slower RAM (DDR2), PCI versions have faster RAM (DDR3)

The PCIe version is also named a x1600xt.

Too bad its only PCIe for the moment, though the 7600GT is coming out this month
And the 7600GT doesn't own the x1800xt, the x1800xt is equal to 7800GT and in some games (shader intensive games) to the 7900GT.

im running the x1600xt. its a great budget card and over clocks well! i have mine clocked at (core) 630mhz (mem) 702. all settings are on high and 2x aa.

if you can save up and get you something a little bit more up to date.

then why does 7800GS us ddr3? AGP has nothing to do w/ slower ram, it just has lower bandwith (not ram bandwith)

Your X700 has 8 pipelines and so does the 1600pro i think ... if not it would be 12 and that isn't much better.  Try a 6800gs/7800gs or x800xl/x850xt all four have 16 pipes and use 256 bit ddr3 (all AGP)

So much rubbish in here allredy.

The x1600 is a 256bit card, it's the 7600 that's 128bit. They perform about the same.

The 256Mb version IS the one to go for, not the 512Mb.

And the X1800 COMPLETELY ABLITERATES the 7600.

So many nVidia fanboys. For the record I've owned both nVidia and ATi cards.

Buy ram until u have 3 gb, that is what game experts recommend for windows vista

And vista will work more with SLi than crossfire. End of summer there will come 2 new chipsets 1 of nvidea 1of ati. Wait until they have released and then buy a new videocard. Because vista will make gaming better then ever, with DX10

2 gigs is plenty. Sitting at my desktop, it was using like 600MB of RAM, so add BF2's 800MB of RAM usage to that and you're fine.
