They are played almost solely in the US and the rest of the world has very little interest. European sports on the other hand, e.g Football, Rugby, Cricket are played by million all over the world.

Is this proof that american sports are indeed SHIT or are we missing something?

*I'd like to amend the title of this topic to read 'Are american sports shit?'. The current one is a little too much of a statement and this was unfair. Unfortunately it won't let me.

The sad thing is, many Americans don't know that soccer (football to the intelligent world) is the most popular sport by miles.  They seriously regard the Super Bowl to be the World's biggest sporting event....

The fact is that baseball is played all over the world.  It is extremely popular throuout Latin America and Asia.  In fact the US was knocked out of the World Baseball Classic relatively early.  The finals were between Cuba and Japan, and won by the latter.

They aren't shit, and they are played all over the world. World league football,as well as  baseball, and basketball.  Please feel free to do some research before you post something as biased as your statement.

And as for football(soccer), I prefer not to support a sport who's fans throw bags of blood and urine at the opposing team.  The last time that I checked, I didn't see the fans in the stands erupt into killings, riots, and fires that destroyed stadiums due to differences between two teams fans.   Hooligans suck, low scoring games suck, and basiclly futbol sucks in my book.

We only like sports we're good at.  If we're not good, no one will watch and no one will make any money off of losers.  So, we have basketball on all the time, which we (at least until recently) were unbeatable whereas soccer, we suck, and not too many people are interested. 

And for the record, we (the United States) will not make it out of our group in the World Cup.  You heard it here first.

I'm an american and i love football/soccer and rugby. I've played all the sports you speak of.  Right now I only play football/soccer but i have played rugby and intend to do so again. You ask why american sports are popular are popular here. Think of where these sports were developed and you'll have your answer.

It's just what were brought up with.  I played soccer all through my school years in the U.S.  It's still not that well accepted, but in our high school in Pennsylvania soccer was more important than football.  Football is king-ding-a-ling here in Texas.  Meanwhile, most here can't understand the fascination with cricket; you try to knock off sticks balanced on top of other sticks?

You're missing a major distinction between proffessional sports and collegiate games. I'm not sure if schools overseas have the same fanatical devotion to thier intercollegiate sports but I'd rather watch a college Football game over Pro anyday. How about the rest of the non-pro sports that you didn't mention? Rowing, wresting, soccer, volleyball, golf, swimming, track & field. Lumping Pro-Sports into a single category and then blasting the lot is pretty lame.

Personally I'd rather ignore sports, ie-Futbol/soccer/or whatever you call it, where skinheads can go trolling for recruits in the stadiums. I've heard some pretty terrible stories about soccer fans beyond the basic hooligan nonesense. While we might have some less than savory fans I think most of them got over thier racist issues a long time ago.

I think American sports are good, but take a look at Baseball And American Football they are both based on short bursts of power and speed. A fast pitch followed by a swing of the bat, then a sprint, and then wait a few minutes till the next chap is ready to bat. Americn Football is similar, hike, lots of people run into each other, ball goes dead, again a few more minutes till it all happens again. These sports are based on short bursts of power and speed, they are not a continually flowing game like most of the European sports. But that doesn't make them bad sports.
I am how ever intrigued as to why the baseball final is called the WORLD series when it is only the Americans that play it.
Before You flame me I do watch these sports and know most the rules.
Basketball is the best of the US sports by far fast and exciting I love playing it

Well I'm Dutch, which makes me an European, and I actually played baseball and I like playing basketball and I think soccer(football) is the most dumbass sport in the world, but hell thats just me.

How gracious..And yes, I lived in the US for a year when I was younger, Scarsdale in NewYork, and I even went to camp (camp Wuppatuk or something) where I played all these sports. You weren't even allowed to play american football without 'padding up' and I'd always been used to playing Rugby at school in England so this was a bit wierd. I then tried baseball which is essentially English Rounders (which girls now play in school incidentally, same for basket...netball) but with loads of pointless and overly complicated rules added. Anyway, popularity speaks for itself when it comes to sport...'nuff said.

Oh and Kracker don't get me started on american cars...

Baseball's World Series, when it started, included every country in the world that played baseball....the US (and more recently Canada).

That was a long time ago, and things are a little different now.  It is truly a worldwide sport now, which is why they came up with the idea of the World Baseball Classic, which is the REAL world baseball playoff, in the sense of a 'World Cup.'  As a baseball fan, I'm very pleased about that, and clearly many other countries were as well...especially the Latin American ones, where this event was HUGE (I really thought the Dominican Republic would take it, but Cuba really shocked everyone with how good they were).  Anyway, as noted before, Japan won in the end.

The Super Bowl(as he said) IS the largest sporting event in the owrld because of the fact that is rakes in teh most amount of money.  MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!

Fair enough.  Baseball, as repeatedly mentioned is one of the most popular sports in the world.  I would guess that it is second behind Soccer, but that's just a guess.

Alittle more aggresive than I'd have put it, but definitely spot on concerning the reply.  RBlanco seems to speak from a biased opinion.  It's abit narrowminded, seeing as some of the sports mentioned are played internationally. 

As for EstebanRay: biased comment, the "intelligent world" comment is an aggressive and insulting usage of words towards alot of people here on the forums.  What a poor choice of words to present in debate and serious talk.
