This is my first post at this forum and I think it was made with good timing. I have a theory here that seems all but probable : BF 2's 1.3 patch is like Diablo 2's 1.10 patch.

I don't if some of you played this RPG style game but the purpose of 1.10 was to destroy the game. They set the difficulty level extremly high (near impossible), they made a war against hackers and they tried their best to cut the gameplay of the game. Why? 3 words : World of Warcraft.

Now, what does Diablo 2 have anything to do with Battlefield? Does 2142 means something to you? You are a major company and you want to get the more players possible. How do you do that? MAke them stop playing the old games and force them playing the new ones.

What is supporting this theory :

1-They cut a little the gameplay.
2-They lowered most requirements to make sure more people will get all medals and then stop playing.
3-They changed the servers configuration and now its become difficult to find a good server. Oh, what a surprise, they said that they will bring a brand new kind of server search for BF 2142.

Anyway, might be paranoia but you guys have to agree that this just cant be a coincidence...
Yes interesting. The D2 1.10 patch did ruin D2 for awhile but the 1.11 refixed it in a way. The player community raised hell to get it fixed I guess. Some people still didn't like it because it forced them to change their methods. Hmmmm sounds like 1.2 and 1.3 again!

Now the same thing is happening to Age of Empires 1 & 2 but Microsoft and Ensemble Studios couldn't get people to quit playing AoE1&2 by ignoring them (instead of breaking cheaters they let them run rampant) so they are shutting down the servers. Their only comment now is "AOEIII is the best selling RTS ever so go play it instead"...but AOEIII sucks bilgwater.

I wonder if we could succsessfully boycot 2142 until they fix the redtag glitch in BF2 lol

The idea that these people are smart enough to manipulate their customers but not deliver a good, bug-free product is vexing.

i was having this theory for a while, but i believe its more believable since EA will make ppl stop playing bf2, then move on to 2142 which is a hell lot less buggier, and has better gameplay.
How do you know?  Are you saying this because the initial release (unpatched version), will have been tested by the original developers instead of having a separate group of programmers maintain the code in Canada?

You people are amazing!  I suppose that EA killed Kennedy too?

They could add to this game endlessly and just have people buying expansion packs for years, like The Sims.  It is a perfect business model.  Why would they intentionally ruin it to spend more money developing another product.

If you hate EA so bad, stop buying the products and crying on these boards like a girl named Sally.

I think EA does a great job and have brought happiness to a great many people.  This game changes, much like life.  Change with it and have fun doing so!

yes true wooglin but the same holds true for many games and instead the companies went for the new releases instead of patches and updates. I think someone is advising companies that making new games every 18 months is smart.

I also agree that new releases often are the way to go, but do you honestly think they would purposely sabotage an old game?  I mean BF1942 still funtions properly, right?

I just think the issue is that they are not testing the patches fully, due to the screaming masses.  I also think they listen to said masses too much and noobify the game at times.

I wholeheartedly disagree that anyone would sabotage a game they created just to sell more of something new.  Sometimes they just blow it, in the case of SOE with Star Wars Galaxies.  Too much tinkering...

I know I can picture the top brass at EA and their marketing department sitting down and talking about how much everyone enjoys BF2 but they only paid once for the game so the players aren't really customers any more.  First they bring out SF to get some more cash of BF2.  Then they come up with EF to bilk $10 out of all the players hoping for some good maps and better weapons.  Now they're gonna want another $10? for AF which has no new weapons at all just vehicles and 3? maps.  But of course with 2142 in production and ready to be released just before Christmas, they are worried that with all the money BF2 players have paid and all the time they have put in for medals and rank that it may be hard to get a few to switch over (personally I wasn't too sure if I'd switch).  But now in the interests of "improving game play" they bring out 1.3.  They add features like vehicle drop, sounds cool but is so obviously flawed that the flaws were intentional or just allowed to create problems.  Then the change in the medals and ranking system has given us three and four star generals overnight and given a few players medals and ribbons that were almost impossible to obtain ie. War college.  All in the interest of curbing some enthusiasm for BF2 and trying to pre-sell 2142 because now players want what they had in BF2 which is slowly being eroded away.

Or EA's maintenance team, which so far has been doing a fairly good job in fixing the game play with past patches, has suddenly dropped the ball.  Maybe they lost all their old programmers and the new ones don't care.  Maybe the maintenance team all got hooked on meth and are having problems focusing on the project.

So I guess it's a matter of which you believe is more plausible - a group of programmers loosing 40IQ points somehow since 1.21 or corporate greed.

Bf2-Release and a part of it, but they took it out the game,
to get more money) and will never end. Now they tryin
to make Bf2 unattractive step by step (or patch by patch),
just to have a better number of sells, when Bf2142 is gonna

While I hope 2142 either flops or becomes like BF:V (so BF2 would bel ike 1942, and still played a hell of a lot) I'm scared that BF2 is actually being slowly killed off by EA.

Wooglin, yes m8 I know people "sabotage" stuff I have seen it from within organizations, although certainly not in every case, sometimes its just a well-meaning mistake or incompetence. If you review the past 5 years of Age Of series by MS/ES as an example you clearly get the sense that they think keeping old games alive impacts on their new sales. Their answer is to discontinue support because they can't make a bug-free game good enough to surpass their old buggy games. lol

Yes I said I have seen, first hand, from military to corporate to lowly IT department decisionmakers (not deciders GW) do precisely that, abandon a quality effort because a new effort/product is easier to sell, will not bruise anyone's egos and there is more money to be made.

You see, if you have to fix something then it is broke and if it's broke someone messed up and if someone messed up then someone has to pay and nobody wants to hurt anybody else's feelings because they want a job next year. So they make a new game and leave it to their marketting dept to sell more 3-legged mules to mountain goat herders and fishermen.

and we keep buying so their behavior is being rewarded. If people massively boycotted just one game release like 2142 EA and the others would get the message and stop using us to hunt their game-play bugs (drivers are another issue).
