The question I have here is this: What makes you think, your definition of freedom is the same as the one of people of countries the US chooses to "liberate"?yerded wrote:
The main difference is that we believe in sharing freedom with the world and the nazis/fascist were into murder and extermination.
Spreading freedom, by bayonet point when needed, is our duty as free people.
Nice try though.
Actually, in my opinion, the US do something that one might call "Economic Imperialism"... It is really uneconomic to occupy a country nowadays... the invader would have to deal with the whole administration... it is much better to install a friendly government and just reap the economic spoils by placing ones own companies there.... how many non-american companies are currently involved in Iraq? Help me here.
somebody who was stationed in central texas for 5 years dipshit.Major_Spittle wrote:

Just one question.... Isn't using cars known as gas-guzzlers with a shitty gas mileage also something that can be defined as squandering natural resources?JohnnyBlanco wrote:
No. Americas idea of the greater good is happy singing yanks driving 10 litre trucks for ever after and imo why the hell not. There's no evil masterplan on americas part, the only freedoms been curtailed rarely affect the majority of its people anyway, in fact america should use its power to activly invade countries who squander there natural resources and treat there citizens like shit. It would piss people off but at least that countries future generations would not be living in poverty while there leader rides around in a hundred grands worth of merc. Team America, World Police........ fuck yeah.
I guess we should also invade countries that actively give a shit about global environment... like some governments who actively boycotted the Kyoto Protocol...
Ahhhh, Fort Hood, brings back memories of Codys in Waco.GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

I was at Fort Hood when the Branch Dividian Complexed was assaulted live on the local news. I remember watching the ATF trying to perform their MOUNT style attack and everyone saying the guys on the second story would never make it just before they got blown away.GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

MOUNT assault on a building without hand gernades to clear rooms.....hmmm, bad Idea when someone is armed and waiting for a fight.
They actually had some people get Bradys to start roading to Waco that same day, I remember saying that it seemed unconstitional to be using the military without declaring war on them or Martial law or something. Weird times. Feel sorry for the children, feel sorry for the agents.
I like how the thread was taken over by Army dogs.
Anyway, America is far from a fascist state. Sure, we may have a President who pushed for the invasion of 2 countries and has a list of other bad dealings and is in general a dipshit, BUT he'll be gone in a few years time. Never to be elected again. So a new cabinet will be ELECTED (read: not installed) to replace him. Peacefully, with no coups or anything.
The reason that any democracy exists is basically because of America. This country was the first democratic state to stay together more than a few years. Sure, it had some bumps in the road. But it still exists and works.
Semper.

Sure. Let's just ignore Britain and France.DeadboyUSMC wrote:

I'm not up on my French history, but I'm pretty sure you'll find it was a democratic France that saved your asses from the British.acEofspadEs6313 wrote:

Wasn't Nepoleon conquering europe at that time???? +1 karma for the Louisiana Purchase to all you French, suckas.Bubbalo wrote:

Actually, France was a monarchy at the time. They became democratic AFTER the French Revolution.
Why in the fuck is it our job to bring our way of life to other countries? I think if I were busy living my life how I've always lived it, and some fucking holier-than-though asshats came into my country, I'd be "too stuborn to change" as well.Lib-Sl@yer wrote:
Did i say anything about peace? i said democracy, as in voting, not as in peace. As for our hopes of a domino efeect i personally think that it is not gonna work. people are too stuborn to change.Bubbalo wrote:

Now that we are bringing democracy to the middle east we are hopping for a domino effect to the rest of the countries.

Thanks, wasn't sure about that. Still, British parliament had started up, correct?acEofspadEs6313 wrote:

Yes. British Parliament was formed in 1707 betweem England and Scotland in 1707 under the 1707 Act of Union. Ireland was added to this in 1800 under the 1800 Act of Union.Bubbalo wrote:

Precisely, and whilst the monarch was still reasonably powerful at that stage, it was the first democratic model. And of course, all this is ignoring ancient Athens, which was a truer democracy than any country alive today.
wasnt greece the first democracy? i mean how old is USA? not that many generations, dont just think in ur ageline
Actually, I think Athens was a city-state at the time it was a democracy.
America isn't a democracy. It's just easier to say than "constitutional republic."rh27 wrote:
Finally, something I never understood, can someone explain how a 'true democracy' can exist based on a 2-party system? (Not being sarcastic, I actually don't know how elections work in the USA)
Kyoto? Give me a break. What a poorly-written p.o.s.BEE_Grim_Reaper wrote:
