I'm new to this game so I'm not sure if it's just me being a noob.  But every time I fly a plane, I get off the groung but after a while I start losing speed and I crash.  Yes I'm keeping my finger on w :-).  I've tried it both online and offline and the same thing happens.  I'm thinking maybe my wireless keyboard cuts off buttons if they've been held down too long or something to do with the patch.  I'd just like to know if anyone else has had this problem or has heard of it.  Until then i'm stuck on the ground.  :-(.

If you are in a vehicle, such as a tank or DPV, if you hold down 'W' does that slow down too? Or is it just aircraft?

Aircraft sometimes don't pick up enough speed to lift off without hitting the ground if you use just W.
Try using W until life off and then hit the afterburner button (Shift) to gain more alltitude quicker.

W in the Vehichles is to go forward and to speed up. Slowing down would not pressing W or pressing S and then eventually reverse.

i bought a new keyboard around two months ago, yet it can't take me holding down keys for a long time or pressing more than 3 keys at once or in rapid succesiion. so i have to use my old one. this is probably the problem, or your finger is too weak

Ive noticed that all of the bf games and types i have played, i have run into this problem. But i fixed it quite easly. I bought a joystick (And dont say "not all ppl have $". Yes, i know everyone isnt rich to buy a 25-40ish$ joystick)...dunno if anyone eles has noticed this but i think its somthing just not rubbing the right way between bf and keyboards.

Cheers Madcat sounds like what happens to me.  I can take off easily but after maybe a minute in air I start to slow and can't speed up again.  I'll check out my keyboard settings and see if I can fix it.

If you view your plane from third person (chase view) do you see the engines at least putting out a constant flame?  That should be idle and you should be going 800-900 nauts or so I think is the default flying speed.

If not press your w key while in third person (after letting go of course) see if your engine lights up or emits more of a flame.  That will be the flame you should see.

If you then double tap your w or press Shift you should see your afterburners.

The good thing about this is you get the noise and the visual indicators because when im flying I always check out my camera views for fear of a tailing plane.

When I first got bf2 I had a wireless keyboard, and my keys would lock up/not work for a few seconds very often.  When I replaced my keyboard with a non-wireless one the keys didn't lock up or anything anymore.  Maybe that's the problem?
