its beeter to have them in pairs to take advantage OF DDR if U have 1 gig stick and 2 512 sticks it will still operate in single channel it would be best to get another gig stick and it would operate in duel mode
3x512=single read
4x512=duel read
2x512+ 1 gig=single read
2x 1 gig =duel read
get it the more u can read the faster so more memory the better but only in pairs
also tweek the ram timings and FSB for better gaming but not for noobs!!!

I upgraded to 2gigs and I have less choppiness and I am the first one in a round.  By the time other people join in I have already captured 2 flags.  Depending on the map.

Specs:
X2 3800+, oc'd to 2.51ghz
ram timmings:  2.5-3-3-7 250mhz

LOL...I love how the late comers to this thread have never bothered to read that this person does not have a S939 AMD system.  It's either S754, which is single channel and 3 DIMMs is not recommended, or it is an NF2 based XP AMD system, in which case it would be dual channel and will run dual channel with all 3 slots populated.
