I just got an unused OEM SATA HDD (WD 320GB) from a friend for cheap ($40), and I was wondering a few things.
1. How do I tell what the drive supports? (SATAII, NCQ, etc.)
2. Other than SSC, do any of the features require me to do something to enable them? (I saw the jumper to enable SSC)
3. Should I enable SSC?

does it have a serial number? just type it into google and you should get something.

There is no such thing as SATA II. It is a common misconception. it is infact just a revision of the current SATA I (its called 1.something in fact). NCQ does not have any real use for home users. What is SSC; usually SATA drives are juperless

EDIT: looked up SSC: you should (can not must) only enable SSC in multi drive configuration. It lowers the electromagnetic emmission of the drive as i understand it. i would leave it off

you dont need to enable something (also apart from SSC)

Sorry, I actually meant SATA-300.
SSC is Spread Spectrum Clocking.
The drive has 3 or 4 sets of small jumpers, but only two are labeled.  1 is for SSC, the other to force SATA-150.  Based on that, I asume the drive supports SATA-300, but wanted to make sure.

i would leave SSC off, and enable SATA 300. the other jupers are probably there because this drive is natively a IDE drive
