Hi guys i thought i would post in here, as it is the tech forum , i did a search and found nothing so here goes.

I have FRAPS installed on my machine but when ever i start to record i lag like a bitch it takes me down to 14fps or less, the specs on my machine arnt exactly terrible i have;

Intel P4 3.0GHz
2GB RAM
ATi X800 (modded to X850 XT PE and overclocked)
Dual Rapter 36.7GB HDD's running in RAID 0
200GB backup IDE drive

i run the game on high settings with AA full and AF full on 1024x768 abd get a constant fps of 70+

So why i am i getting all this lag whenever i try to record a battlerecorder file that i have downloaded it lags so bad and when you play back the video it lags aswell so its not just on my screen and the video records fine.  So what am i to do? i tried going down to medium graphics and it doesnt help

anyone help me please?

Lower your settings to medium when recording

have done and still lags really bad, i jsut dont know where the problem is although something tells me its the processor and i cant overclock it due to shitty RAM, and i dont have the time to lower the RAM clocks then increase my FSB as that would take to long and i dont have the time

BF is really sensitive to overclocking and it sometimes might even lower your performance in game so try putting everything back to normal

The reason you're lagging is Fraps uses a huge amount of system resources while its recording. The raw filesize is about 7 megs/second of footage (at 30 fps), and it has to write that to the disk in real-time. Your best bet for increasing FPS is to decrease the settings in game (as mentioned previously), or decrease the amount of frames per second that fraps will record (and/or turn sound recording off).

this depents on your procercor(spelling???) and harddrive mostly, yes, the payed version is laggy but less i think, cause "logicly" it is easyer to write a pic then to write a pic with www.fraps.com writen on it.

i normely get 70-100 frames per second, the maximum bf2 will give is 103 or something?...

but with fraps it drops to 32, i allow it to record 35 frames/sec. if my frames are 35 before i record i cant play anymore.

You system is similar to mine and I have the same problem... for the most part

AMD64 3000+
2GB Ram
ATi x800 gto2 (16 pipe, x850xt pe speeds.. yadda yadda)

I play at 'Ultra High' 6xaa at 1280x1024 I'll get a great 80+ fps... I hit record and my shit drops from 80fps to 10fps... although SOMETIMES it records semi smooth 20ish fps...

I have even tried low settings and I seem to get a stedy 15-20fps.. witch is still crappy =/

FRAPS is a real bitch when it comes to recording video. The only thing I can offer is to try to increase FPS as much as possible. I used to game on a CRT with my video card pushing a constant 100 FPS (BF2 cap) and had to record at 50 FPS to get it to actually display around 35 while recording. Since I got an LCD and I have it locked at 75 FPS at a larger resolution, I can't record at all, because it drops me to unplayable levels (~15).

One thing I would try is to change the FPS it records at.... by default I think it is 30 FPS, but if you bump it up to 50, the FPS displayed while recording will go up, although I don't know why. I think it caps at like 60 FPS to record at, so this can only help so much.

Sadly, there is no in-game recording solution that doesn't bog down your system to crap. Hopefully in the future, software developers can take advantage of the modern dual-core CPUs and allow stuff like this to happen with little decrease in performance. As it is now, all I can say is good luck.
