Hey, its been about half a year since I got this computer, and recently Ive been hearing this strange high pitched whinning noise, and IT COMES FROM THE TOWER, it defenitly doesnt sound right or natural, like something is stuck in the fan, but heres the killer, it happens when the computer is OFF, and this really pisses me off, as the computer is right next to my friggin bed, The sound doesnt occur when the computer is off however,

Oh and also, Ive encountered some sort of wierd buzzing/whinning sound, like a mozzie, in my sound, now Ive isolated the problem to be with my computer, and how it handles sound, it comes from the mic so, when I try to speak, all people hear is the whinning, Ive reinstalled my driver, and that caused nothing but two hours of fretting, and now my realtek sound monitor thingo is now gone, and the computer has reverted to microsoft's default stuff

From my Pov, I would say something is fucking around in my computer, but Im not to sure, I would take it to a tech shop, but that would cost me money, which I am saving up for some new RAM, so, if possible could you guys help out?

Edit: The sound is coming from the power thingo, above the fan...............

And the sound is not like a buzzing bee noise, its like a mosquito,

Make sure you have NO spyware/adware/viruses/malware problems since you haven't already stated that yet. Does the problem still exist when you unplug the microphone coard? That can help up greatly.

Some mobo's have an option to keep the GPU fans running after shut down.  Have you opened you tower up, shut it down, and see if anything is running.

I am sure you could peek inside the tower and locate the sound.

I guess you have a serious problem with gremlins ! No...just kidding! If you don't want to loose your warranty then you'll have no other choice to take your computer to a tech shop. I have no Idea what this could be...but sounds like a fan problem!

A beep? Not for sure, but sometimes I believe I can hear such a strange thing as well, believe it's caused by the Hard Disk. What I've heard you might try open your case, unscrew the Hard Disk and lay it down somewhere (or even, yes I mean it, HANG it in your computer). Than turn on the computer and hear if you still hear that sound. Also, first you can try opening your case and come a bit closer to your HDD to hear IF the sound comes from that.

Hope that helps!

It probably is the fan/GPUfan/CPUfan, does it have a power supply button on the back, cos you should always turn that off, it completly shuts off the power, apart form the capicitors in it. If you cant fix it take it into a shop.

The best solution for computers is do it yourself. NEVER EVER buy premade comps apart from Alienware and other gaming makes with good customer support, ive made my own so i can open up the comp tap the fan a few times and hey presto its fixed.

The sound is definitly not a fan, and no, If the computer totaly has no power, by turning off the power supply or unplugging it, the sound then, speeds up, gets higher, and dies, the sound is like when your ears start to hear ringing or high pitched noises

I've heard high voltage circuits do this.  I've seen it in PSUs, and I've seen happen from the flyback transformer in CRT monitors.  In your case, it is definitely the PSU.

Sounds like a grounding issue.

You sure it's not the HDD? Maybe I can suggest to buy (or lend maybe) another power supply, see of the problem still occurs.

As far as I can tell that's a problem that is very common among all kinds of electronic devices. I've heard my computer do it, my TV Set, my VCR and so on. In other words every device that does something at a certain frequency (monitors have their refresh rate, etc.).

In the specific case of a PSU it's most likely some coil inside the unit. As PSUs consist of circuits that operate at very high frequencies, the harmonics of the circuits can cause a coil to become lose and vibrate slighly. This vibration is the sound you hear coming from your PSU. That's not really something to worry about, it will probably still work just fine.

I understand the sound can be very annoying tho, but I'm afraid there's not much you can do about it on your own. If you want to get rid of the noise you'll have to either take it to some tech shop to get it fixed or just buy a new one.

I can not guarantee that this is the problem, but I'm pretty sure it is.

Yeah, sounds about right, well, ive got to take this lagbox to the tech shop anyway, because my sound card wont function and allow my mic, No mic = No fun
