or you could just borrow my L96A1.....
what i like about the m24 and l96 is that i can induce instant death at insane ranges. I havent tried the SVD much, to be honest, but i know that it doesnt have the same kind of accuracy guarantee at these ranges that i know i have with the former two.
Now i realize the semi auto makes this weapon deadly at short ranges, but i just doubt that this range extends beyond the range of the g36c, g36e, or l85 (these weapons rival even the bolt action snipers). This relegates the SVD to an awkward position. If you have too much range, a sniper with bolt action is going to pop you. If you don't have enough, you are at a major disadvantage against the full auto, 30 round clip rifles.
The sniper kit is my very favorite in the game next to maybe the support kit. Not for playing, mind you, these are just my favorite kits to kill. Both of them tend to go prone for more than a second at a time.
I only like playing these kits when there are a bunch of people already using them in that way. I then choose a bolt action, and just pop up for half-seconds on these campers and just headshot them. headshots are EASY on motionless/prone-and-crawling targets so basically they are screwed. By the time they know im on to them they are dead. I also like picking up the eryx to kill these prone noobs, they get one second to see/kill me or instant death. Against skilled opponents, the sniper kits aren't very useful. A skilled player will be moving around so you will want to have enough rounds in your clip AND accuracy.
Sorry I'm getting off topic but my point was just that the SVD has the 10 shot advantage but in order for it to be useful, you have to stay in a narrow range that is beyond the assault rifle/carbine range, but not so far that the bolt action sniper have a giant advantage over you.
If the SVD "owns" for the reasons you described then what does that say for the L85? Its just better because it can do about as much as the SVD at range but is also on par with any cqc weapon. And plus you wont have to look like a noob for using claymores.

That's exactly the problem with the SVD,it is just an assault rifle with a scope. While duking it out with single shots on nearly long range you have the advantage over the unscoped full autos, but it is just not enough.Marinejuana wrote:

There are only two possible solutions to fix this:
1. More damage for the SVD/Type88 I'd say raise it to 49 points of damage, maybe even more without making it über, right now it's 45,like the PKM.
2. More zoom for the SVD/Type88 It's 3.33 now,the bolt action rifles have 5,the L85 has 2.5 and the normal assault rifles have either 1.43 or 1.67 zoom factor.
Patching it to 4 would seem adequate for me,there still has to be a distinction between semi-auto and bolt action.
In real life the M24SWS is used with a 10x42 Leupold Ultra M3A scope(10x42 means ten times magnification and a diameter of 4,2 centimeters).
The SVD has the Russian, classically side-mounted PSO-1 4x24 scope with illuminated recticle(you can let the recticle light up in red,I think it's red on the SF night maps).
So the SVD nearly has its real life magnification, the M24 should have double magnification(which would make the sniper really unfair on maps like Wake, just imagine:all the prone guys on the arty-island would have double the size, headshot guaranteed).
My choice for a fix would be more zoom, before everybody starts whining that the SVD is too strong,we don't need another PKM hysteria.
Hey I actually gave ther SVD a lot of additional time today and am thinking its almost as good as the L96. Its just much more accurate than I remember it. You can kill all the bad snipers with bolt actions easily because unless they headshot, you have more than enough time to hit them with 2-3 three bullets.
And to disagree with myself even more, I think the SVD is better than the L85 at medium/long range because of its accuracy/power combination. Its a pretty sweet gun...

Yes I know, I always end up dying from being killed as well.MastersMom wrote:
Give me the L96A1 almost every time. But I'm not a great sniper...DAMN THOSE GREAT SNIPERS. They always kill me too much and I end up dying from it.
Its a crying shame that most of you only play as the Middle Eastern Lameoalition, because if you did play as China, you would be aware the Chinese Type 88 ownerises the SVD to the dirty floor beneath its users feet. But yeah, I dont think I have been owned by the semi automatic sniper rifles, but I sure can own with them. LOL.

SVD is perfect for kark, 3 bodyshots in 1 second an they r dead. a really good assault rifle if u use it correctly. but thats the only map i use it in, any other an its my L96A1
semi autos are better for close range snipers or on foggy maps
but i prefer getting the 250m head shots with my bolt action rifles
