So I opened my computer today to add a hard drive.

well I found this little black round thing.

its about 3/8 inch tall that has a copper wire rapped around it. on a spool lookin thing.

at the bottom is 2 silver connections for either end of the copper wire obviousely.

on the top it says 1R5.

I took my whole comp apart trying to find out if I can see where it came from... not a sign of a missing componet anywhere.

I put it all back together with the new hard drive. and I am using it now. I been playing Bf2 and everything else...

just kinda wierd. I even compared my graffics card to my wifes, same one. and looks good.

any ideas?

only thing I can think of is I had 2-3 other graffics card in this comp. but I think I would have seen this lying in the bottom of my PC before...

but again everything seems to be running fine O.o

*edit

oh its about 1/4" wide

It sounds like an inductor, or maybe a custom low value resistor if it is marked 1R5. It certainly wont be a 1R5 valve!

You should be able to find where it went, probably on your graphics card. You may even be able to resolder it if you are good at that sort of thing. Though if your machine is working OK, maybe the "aint broke don't fix it" thing might be a good idea, especially if you're not even sure it actually came off one of your computer components!

ya my first thought was off the Graffics card, but like I said I pulled it out and pulled my wifes out too. and they are exactly the same...

I even looked over the MB and other cards to see if there are any similar parts same writing/look... and nothing...

ya I guess I will just throw it in one of my part boxes and see if I ever need it lol...

If I did find out where it went I would be able to suader it np... just don't want to put it in the wrong place and fry my system...

hopefully it is off one of my old graffics cards or something... dunno...

You fool! 1R5! Just look at it!
It's from the IRS!
They're after you man! Grab all you under-the-table earnings and make a run for it!
Better yet, drop all your tax-free earnings off at my house!

So what happens when he drop`s the 1R5/IRS (Incredibly Robust Spycam) device in the garbage, you`re right - it scannes all his thrown away receits and transmits it to the NSA.

I have a good solution to that, wrap it in tinfoil before putting it in the garbage. Problem solved!

Hm, if it is IRS (Irish Recriational Slaughterclub) tinfoil aint gonna work, not even flushing the toilet will get u off the hook. Better to lease a spacerocket and hurl it into space ..... that`ll make their minds twist for a few seconds.

OK I was watching "back to the future" the other day and I think it might be a flux compasator. You better find a place to stick it in your computer so you can get future sports scores

I'm going to say it's off your motherboard, and is part of the CPU power regulation circuitry.  Look at this picture in the link.  Just to the left of the motherboard chipset heatsink, next to that cluster of capacitors.  Is that what it looks like?

Mmmmmm, Epox motherboard.

I thought his description was more like the components on this video card:

ShellShock.PwN... lol, I'd be a bit worried if I found a valve tube inside my computer!

im a pc technician and i couldn't deffinatly say where its from cos some motherboards have componants like too all i can suggest is post Pics and specs of your system
But as Gulf_War says if it aint broke dont fix it, if you could attempt to solder it back to where it was originally from it may blow up as soon as you switch on.

One day though you might just hear a pop and your comp will go off
you'll go to inspect whats happened and you'll find a black scortch mark from where it was meant to be

its a possibility

That looks exactly like it, the 2 black spools with copper wires on there. but the top says IR5 instead of that other stuff.

I have a Radeon 9550 graffics card atm, but none of those are on it, nor my wifes out of her comp.

So I guess it has to be off one of my old cards

gforce 4400 64mb (I think, original one)
gforce 5700 128mb (malfunctioned, fan went out and burned up)

Thanks for the help with it ^^
