How many users play Battlefield 2??  I'm curious as to how many would sign their name to a "I'm for the change" or "I don't care about the change" petition?

Taking the number off the Leaderboards from BF2S it shows about 326,551 players.  10,000 people equate to just over 3%.  In the grand scheme of things, that's not that many.
Sure, its 3% of those who have ever registered a PID. That number is in no way representative of the number of ACTIVE players of BF2 however.

For the purposes of debate, lets call someone active if they play an hour a week. I know that we all here eclipse this number, but let it be. I'd guess that maybe a MAX of 25% of the registered players are active. That gets us to 81,637. Now, there are 10,454 signatures, on a petition that has spread through the BF2 community ONLY through word of mouth.

For those who are keeping track, thats 12.8% of your active playerbase.

I wonder if we started a petition to eliminate the red name bug, what percentage of players would sign it?

Anyway, this is totally OT. Me, personally, I cry at the thought of losing the ability to cycle the squad leader within a squad. Perfect example: Last night my mates and I were on Karkand Every Third, and were playing Sharqi. We took a full Vod to the TV station as MEC, and then proceeded to cap it. The fighting was fast and furious (and included an enemy that has an aimbot), and were we not able to cycle squad leaders, we would have never held it as long as we did.

Now, taking the TV station is important for 2 reasons: it denies the enemy the heli and commander assets, and it diverts enemy forces from defending the "front" points, allowing your team to make great inroads on the map thanks to the actions of 6 people.

The part I loved about last night was that there was me, 3 of my mates, and 2 random guys, who KNEW WHAT TO DO with regards to cycling the SL. I love that kind of teamplay, and it led to a fluid, fun environment. One that was worth talking about over a cigarette during map change.

Thats just my 2 cents though. Not like EA will listen to me or anything, my score's already too high. I must be a HAXOR!!!

Wow...so there are nearly 250,000 people that have signed up but no longer active???  That's a huge assumtion.  Interesting.  I wonder what the reality is.  Hmmm.  In any case, there is only one thing that will ever matter....money.  The only way to really get their attention is to stop playing and stop buying.  Honestly, I don't beleve enough people would actually stand behind their word and "stop playing" if they remove squad hopping.

I have no idea. I came up with a [somewhat] random number. But, you figure in the number of kiddies that dropped BF2 for a new toy, those who operate with 3 or 4 PID's, those who only play once a month or so when the spirit strikes them, and those who just moved on, I figured 25% seemed like a reasonable number.

I'm curious now. I know its OT, but how many of the 326K registered PID's do YOU think are active? This isn't a fight, or argumentative, just intellectual wanking. I really want to know what others think.

More than 10,000 people signed a petition against it but did they listen or care?

No
Its a good thing they make the game and not the consumer...

If you dont care about the change and claim it doesnt affect then dont post, either way your fine, so if people dont want the change surely you would say, "fine dont change it if its gunna anger people, i dont mind anyway". I realy see no point in you even posting tbh, i would understand if you want the change but you quite clearly dont even care.

You are right in this case. Most players have atleast 2 PIDS and i also know alot of people who got the game, had 2 PIDs then stopped playing anyway. Then there are those that only play occasionally which dont realy get affected by changes that hugely.

As my original point in this post was:

This change affects Clan members or heavy squad users. To remove it doesnt benefit anyone whatsoever, part from the people that cant kill 4 or 5 ppl before they respawn which tbh isnt hard if you are using the same tactic. Eg. Sharqi TV station, people are taking the flag, nade through door 3 down, run in and kill the others.

*sigh*  If you read a little closer you would see that I in fact DO want the change.  I said I would play regardless of if they make the change or not.  But if I had the choice, I would like the change cause it would make it more realistic.

You just said again that you will play either way, that said, you dont realy care if it happens or not and therefore whats the point in making the game worse for other users.

EA are removing squad hopping from the game, this is where you can spawn straight off your squad leader when you join a squad, they are going to make it so that you must spawn first before you can spawn off the squad leader. Whats your opinion on this?

If you disagree with this theres a petition going, check my sigy.
OK Buddy...let's look at the very first post in this thread.  Note the underlined section.  You asked for people's opinion, and I gave mine and discussed it.  Again, I will play no matter what because I like the game and it's fun.  That being said, MY OPINION is that they should change it becuase it would make it more realistic...which is what I like.  So no, I will not sign your little petition because I would like to see it changed.  At the same time I will not quit the game because of one little change.  I will adapt.  Next time you make a thread where you only want people to agree with you don't ask for opinions.

little change? I see you only play public and I guess ranked for points. If you ever played a real match for competition, you would get what a "little" change it is.

What im saying is the following:

1.Fair enough thats your opinion.
2.Can you realy say that it would affect your play?
3.If not dont bother getting anoyed about it and go talk about something else.

Im fully up for people coming who actually can say it will affect their game play but want it removed anyway. Eg. The people in my TWL forum discussion about this.

2.  I do currently use squad hopping.  Let's face it, it's a very commonly used tactic.  The only way to survive against it is to use it...fight fire with fire.  So yes, it would affect my gameplay as well.

3.  You asked for opinions, making this an open forum for discussion.  Which is what I am doing.  I'm debating on the side of removing squad hopping.  I have just as much right to be here discussing this as you do.  So, if you don't mind, don't tell me where I should and should not post.

Coming from America's Army, the realizm in that game is far and above BF2.  Hell, when you die in AAO you are done until the round ends.  No respawn.  Sometimes made for a very boring game....but it also forced people to play as a team.  Watch out for each other...use real tactics.  The problem with AAO is that it was so stagnant.  New maps were far and few between, limited weapons, no vehicles (up until recently...and then only one).  BF2 was faster paced and provided more options in gameplay (weapons/vehicles).  I'm trying to get the best of both worlds here.

Part from the fact that AA sucks and has tons of cheaters.

You dont seem to be getting the point that i dont mind peoples opinions on removing it if it genuinely affects your game play, and most players agree that only clans are being screwed over by this. This is the last post im gunna reply to you in, we are just going back and forth getting no where. I would like some new input.

You know, I had a whole post written up but really, what's the point.  I've already spoke my opinion.  Take it or leave it.  I for one am looking forward to the change.  If you decide to quit cause of this then that's just more room on the server for me.  Cheers!

Well if they are going to remove it, it will make the SL hang back and try to stay alive and there fore he gets less points.  Why not give the SL some type of team points?  I personally like squad hoping and use it alot, but I will still play when it's removed, just have to make do and adapt again for the hundreth time.  sigh...
