i am putting together a new comp. and i am stumped on my video card sellection so i decided to ask all of you whats your favorit video cards (be realistic i would love to have a 512 sli card but cant afford it)
Well since you want Sli , just get two 7900Gt's . Or you can get one or a x1900xt(can be bios to XTX) or XTX
Do Not buy a medium range ati card, for medium range cards get a 6800

In actuality, you will probably receive optimum performance/price from a single 7900GT. Then, when the 8800's come around the bend, you won't be smarting as much from previously purchasing two 7900GT's.
Currently, I'm constantly recommending BFG's 7900GT. Interestingly, my video card (a BFG 6800U 256MB AGP) is still running apps strong and steadily (it better, because it was $490 when I bought it). I am receiving the most bottlenecking from my lack of a second gig of memory. Something I'll address sometime in the future.

when is nvidias next card coming out, you think there will be some kind of demo at e3
Hmm... hard to say which one you should get... I can't make recommendations right now. I used to have a EVGA GeForce 7800GT (CO SE) but that's shipped back for StepUp for their GeForce 7900GT. The card costs $300 and is pretty good for its value. However, if $300 is too pricey, then stepping back would be the 7800GT, which should (keyword: should) be priced between the 7900GT and the 7600GT. The midrange stuff should fall on the 7600GT and, if I guess right, ought to be priced in the $200 area. There are other solutions too from ATi but you'll have to consult that with some of the ATI specialists here. I haven't keep track of their hardware in a bit so I'm kinda out of the loop right now.
The 7800GT is quite potent for many games including BF2. It even scares me sometimes... that I can turn up the details to high settings and still be able to turn on 4x Anti-Aliasing. I haven't fully seen what this card can do yet I'm getting faster hardware in a week.
Again to reiterate, I cannot recommend a card over another. It really depends on your preference of flavors, especially in hardware, drivers, and driver controls. Some like nvidia's. Some like ati's. I don't mind either... but I do not like the direction ati is going with their Catalyst Control Center. But that's just me.

I'd agree with unnamednewbie13: the 7900GT is good value.
Just helped build my housemate's rig (X2 3800+, 1gb, 7900GT, A8N-SLI SE), and it's very happy running BF (and everything else) on high gfx settings. Plus the 7900GT isn't too big or noisy.

leadtek 7900gt ftw, best bang for your buck brand
Are you refering to being able to see shadows from people above you etc?Maj.Do wrote:

On my old 256MB Radeon 9800 Pro when in say the tv station in sharqi i'd typically get the heads up that someone was above me by the shadows appearing even though they were a few floors above me.
I haven't played BF2 much with my new system yet (BFG 512MB 7900GTX) so I can't say whether this happens or not. (I'm still reinstalling all my apps etc)
ati and both nvidia have problems with shading in Obilvion but ati's problem is worst, the shadows look ugly sometimes
Yeah ive seent his as well, it looks like the people are ghosts on Special Forces at nightcyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

it works a lot better when you give a budget as to what you can spend. Not just saying you can't afford SLI 7900gtx's
Go with just 1 7900GTX, equally adaquete
no dont, a 7900gtx is better than 2 7900gt's...ive seen the benchies and 2 7900gts are pretty expensivegeko42 wrote:

Nvidia 6000 series will run BF2 just fine. 7000 series will run it really well. As far as on board RAM. 512 is nice, overkill though unless your running a 30' moniter with a monster res. 256 will be just fine.
its not just that, but the 7900gtx has higher clock speeds and faster memory speedsStealth42o wrote:

7900GT is the best bang for the buck atm... I suggest a Asus EN 7900GT TOP (about 280€ here in germany) because it doesnt have the reference cooler and is overclocked. When you take a look at the whole benches like this http://www2.tomshardware.de/graphic/200 … to-10.html (german) you will see that a 7900GT-SLI system is faster than a single GTX. For around 100 Bucks more you get about 10-13% more power with a GT-SLI.
Also have a look for the Gainward 7900GTs Golden sample 512 MB OC, this cards are barley handled atm, but use the advantage of 512MB and higher memory speeds.
I´ve just build a new rig for a buddy with: AMD64 4000+, 2048MB Corsair TwinX CL2, Asus A8N-SLI-SE and one Asus EN 7900GT TOP. Cost around 1000 €uro and is doing a damn good job with every game so far.

erm, the EN7900GT TOP is faster then the EN7900GT... the cooler is pretty noisy but I dont care about noise
Havent seen a upgrade cooler so far which one was satisfying for me but I´ll have look on this VF900CU, which brand is it?
