Um... I can't really explain properly but I think it allows you to have a 'virtual' CD drive, which you can place 'virtual' CD's in (even if you don't have them)

Works a bit like Alcohol 52%

A program that makes one or several virtual CD/DVD-drives on your computer.

E.g. Let's say you eh.. back up.. ..yeah.. back up a CD or DVD by making an .iso or similar image file out of it on your hard drive.. You now have a clone of that disc as a file. You can now "mount" this image file onto one of your Daemon Tools Virtual drives and use the file instead of the original disc..

Backing up.. sure.. that's what it's for..

you use it to mount CD-Images or mini-images you have on your computer. this means you wont have to play with the CD in its drive.
I use it for BF2 and its expansion (and oblivion). Find mini-images (dont think im allowed to post where) and mount them (they are like <5mb) and away she goes

all this protects you from damaging your CDs (or DVDs in this case)

antiblaxx, alcohol120%, daemon tools are used for NOTHING else by gamers than for playing pirated games.  all this nefarious suggestive speak is a tad lame. u all used em at some stage.. everyone does.

Alcohol to make the image, daemon to mount it.

exactly hughjass.. and as i play basically one game at a time, doesnt leave much room for pirated games, eh?
i have a drawerful of original games.. and on the seldom occasion that i have downloaded warez, i have gone out and bought the original after that. hey, im not being a hypocrite.. everyone dl's warez at some stage, so dont come 'holier than thou' on my ass dude   it all depends on yer attitude to it.  And as HJ says, u cant play online with a pirate copy....

I know I'm being pedantic, but you get abandonware on ISO... that's more semi-legal grey matter than outright piracy....  not that I'm saying I haven't used antiblaxx and that's only become necessary in the last few years...

In fact the Home of the Underdogs has left a little puppy shaped hole in my life, let's hope they fix it soon...
