Any particular server you play on SinnFein or do you just pick them out at random like I do?

Would be interested in seeing if you do anything different from me.

Plus, i'm always up for learning new stuff.

Noticed your accuracy is 45%, (mine's currently 51%) do you tend to take shots more frequently with the hope of getting a hit? Prefer long range sniping etc?

I personally tend to be a bit of a mix when it comes to sniping, although the only times I like getting up close and personal is with my knife.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot my sniper rifle stats.

Time: 124:30:08    Kills: 2,989 Deaths: 1,207 Ratio: 2.48 Accuracy: 51% (this is from bf2player.com, boo! hiss! it updates quicker than bf2s)

I'd love to have a round or two with any of you guys so that you could hopefully show me a thing or two.

Unfortunately though I don't think I'd get a decent server ping time to snipe, being from the land of Oz and on the other half of the planet!

Keep up the good work guys and death to all through our scopes!

My sniper only account, H.O.O.K.F.I.N. is at about 4.00 K/D, a little over... this account is a solid 2.50 (last time I looked).

I completely agree with some of the other posters... I think a sniper's main value is that he should be hard to kill, and therefor a tough ticket for the other team to burn.

I've said this before, but: I was laying on top of Hotel @ Karakandland ( ) took a shot with my M24, and tagged a guy waiting for the J-10 on Wake.

Seriously.

But thanks for the compliment; maintaining those stats takes a lot of discipline.

On a more personal note, I agree with Books' mantra of killing and not being killed rather than agressiveness. I have only recently (with the unlock of L96) begun to dedicate myself to being a sniper - and scorn those who play sniper and armor / plane / claymore whore, as they are a stigma to those who wish to call themselves snipers. My K/D is 1.14 ( ish ), but I do realize that time and discipline are key to get the expert badges, K/D, etc.
In response to the bold text:

I can't agree more with that sentiment.  When I worked towards my expert sniper badges, I REFUSED to accomplish it by armor/aircraft/claymore whoring.  That's not to say I didn't have claymore kills when I did get the badges, but they were probably not more than 6-8 kills via it's use (I can't remember if I grenaded anyone when I received them).  The majority of the kills were with the sniper rifle.  That said, I always look up the amount of time and kills with the sniper kit vs. the time and kills with the sniper rifle when I check others' stats out.  Needless to say, I'm QUITE IMPRESSED by many of the posted stats here!

That said, here's mine:

Sniper Kit Time:  147:32:35
Sniper Rifle Time:  122:46:25
Sniper Kit Kills:  4641
Sniper Rifle Kills:  3094
Claymore Kills:  691
Deaths:  1924
Ratio:  1.61
Accuracy:  52.24%

It's kinda nice to know that about 4/5ths of my time/kills are done with "sniper only" weapons, and are not attributed through "other" means.

Too bad I can't say the same with my engineer and armor stats.  However, it does have to be SOME kit when your rolling around in that tank...

My method of play is a mixture of "careful" sniping, and "aggressive" sniping.  I love getting kills that affect enemy morale or target choice.  For examples:  If you're a hellacious chopper/jet pilot that can turn the tide of battle against my team, ya better believe that I'll be camping your airfields or "favorite" hunting grounds with an M95.  If our arty, uav, or satellite keep getting disabled, I'll be there with claymores awaiting and a view of those "choice" targets.  However, the one thing that I enjoy more than anything is.... COUNTERSNIPING!  On the flip side, I hate being the victim of a countersnipe five times worse than a death from a knife or shock paddles.  Is that just my own pet peeve, or is that common among a lot other sniper enthusiasts too?

I'll keep an eye out for you, if I notice you're on a server then i'll connect and hunt you down like a dog..

I've been a decent sniper since day one, partly because of my use of sniper rifles in operation flashpoint and the scout in counter-strike. (It's funny killing a awm sniper in CS with the scout, pisses them off something rotten)

Sniping in Flashpoint is a LOT of fun, it has got very realistic bullet physics. So, it's a real fun challenge. (if you're patient enough to play it online then sniper wars in OFP last for ages, we're talking entire islands here..  MASSIVE maps that put BF2 to shame)

Yeah, I know what you mean about the addictive headshots.. For a while I played with the M95 only focused on killing helicopter pilots, drivers in jeeps etc.

As to other stuff, while I do play the sniper kit the majority of the time i'm currently trying to get positive k/d ratios for all kits. For example, I just went above 1 for the carbines. (spec ops was the class I typically played when I first started BF2)

I am curious, if you see Books in your scope do you spare him? Yould he do the same. On my part I spare no one since it is part of the game and when I am sniped by a top dog its part of the game as well... I do try to find where he was! By the way, my first encounter with both of you was a hard one, it took about 15 seconds before you got me!

Yep, can't agree more!

Sniper warfare is definitely the best.  Of course, there's also that occasional instance where I run into some enemy with a machine gun, within their lethal range, I stoop to a crouch, and I put one between his eyes for an instant kill.

However, snipers are my priority targets.  I play with a couple of friends, and I've opted to play with headphones over external speakers.  Whenever I hear the report of a sniper rifle, I can just about pinpoint the location of a sniper, and I always report it to my friends/squadmates.  They're still amazed how I notice that rifle report, or I'm constantly visually discerning between a hidden sniper and background clutter.

I can only imagine how the top snipers in the game see the virtual battlefield.  There have been a few instances that I've run into a sniper rifle artiste, looked up their stats, and said, "damn, that player's a sniping force to be reckoned with."  All I can do is live with the fact that there are just some people out there that are just that good.

However, that's what makes sniper warfare so fun!

My feelings are this : When I'm NEAR Hotel (wink wink Books) @ Mashtuur, and I tag some random USMC guy capping Mosque, I feel ok about the hit, but -- there is nothing he could have done to prevent his untimely death. (nothing he could do to me, relatively). BUT, when I know there is someone out there, unfair acquisition or not, waiting with a L96 / M95 / M24 / SVD / etc / etc, my life (virtual) is in constant danger, and I like the rush of being scop to scope with another guy, and clickning the trigger / mouse first...

The "flip side" is this - when we are both looking at each other, and its from a long range, i absolutely HATE seeing the flash of his weapon, and that half-second is slowed into a hour as that inescapble line of code flashed towards me...

I like it when there is more than one Sniper on the opposing team, because then I feel I am saving more of our tickets rather than burning theirs bc of the chances of sniper accuracy.

But yea, Me + Sniper Warfare = In-Game Happiness

Have A Nice Day !!

However, that's what makes sniper warfare so fun!
cheers
