I ran 05 probably half a dozen times with no problems. i have to wait to download 06 because i have a 1.5gb bandwidth limit here at school and that is for bf2

I recently ran into some crashing problems out of the blue; was working perfectly Friday night and Saturday it would crash pretty regularly.  This is how I corrected it.

1. Go under C:\Documents and Settings and copy your BF2 profile to your desktop.
2. Under the BF2 profile (on your desktop) find the mods directory and clear the shader cache.  The game will run that shader optimization again and repopulate that information.
3. From the Start > All Prgograms menu find SF and uninstall it, then do the same for BF2.
4. Manually delete the BF2 directory from under the EA directory where the game installed.  If this is your only EA game you can just delete the entire EA directory.
5. Reboot your computer.
6. Reinstall BF2 and reboot.  Then install SF.  If SF requests a reboot after install, do so.
7. Delete the new BF2 profile from under C:\Documents and Settings and copy the one from your desktop back to that location.
8. Install the full 1.22 patch (~373MB); do not use the incremental patches.
9. Reboot and then run the game.

Since I have done this the game has run flawlessly.

I've got the same problem but this ^ does not work to me, he keeps crashing randomly (maybe Euro Force makes the difference??)

It could be EF, as I don't have that add-on.

How often does it crash? Before you go doing all that other stuff. I would just try to install the full patch not the incremental. I was having some problems with 1.12 and that fixed it. Also I can play Night vision maps but only as commander cause they crash me to desktop all the time.

Battlefield spontaneously crashes on me at least twice a week, ever since they released their first patch. I mark it down to my only having 1GB of memory, but the OP's system looks fine...

Is your cideo card getting too hot? Usually "random" problems like this can be traced back to an automated reset by the system. I would also suggest running a registry check program. I use Registry Mechanic by pc tools. Crap Cleaner (ccleaner.com) is free but does not go as deep into the custom controls but still may find a problem and correct it.

my roomates computer crashed 3 times in one day since he downloaded EF... before he never crashed... i have had several crashes in the past few days since i downloaded EF as well.... or maybe it was patch 1.22? i used them at the same time

Did he install patch 1.22 again after upgrading? Check for new video drivers? Those are the first things I would re-install after upgrading to EF if I was having problems.

Is it possible that your RAM gets full and Windows tries to Resize your paging file?

Also, before you play, have you tried going into your task manager and ending all processes under your username except for explorer.exe, taskmgr.exe, and any others that sound like they may be related to your video card ie. "ATI.exe" etc.?

Sorry to repost again and again but one more thing....Antivirus. Do you disable it before you play?

Did you disable your virtual memory?
If you did, set it back to "system managed".  You might need to reinstall after that's fixed.

Um, no. Do not end all processes like that. Before you shut down a process, check it out at http://www.processlibrary.com/ to make sure it isn't something that's going to cause you to slow down or crash if you kill it.

lol i i forgot i posted this as i have been following it on overclockers.com

1. I have BF2 w/ SF installed
2. I have the lastest non-incremental patch
3. It crashes about 3 times a week and when i start a local server (to practice heli) and i crash
4. it isnt the video card the temps max out at 45c
5. i have 2 gb of ram... i dont think it is getting full and at any given times i have 35 tasks running but i do have    norton (= system hog) running for the fire wall.
6. virtual memory is enabled

after reading a bunch of post i think it could be my dvd drive. i got a couple random reboots over the past week or so after doing superpi and memtest (9 hours no errors) i sumbled across a tread that said that optical drives can cause random reboots and such... i am thinking this may be related to the bf2 problem.

I think you're on to something there. I've spent numerous hours trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with a computer, running numerous tests of all kinds and then the customer mentioned that there cd rom had been acting funny. So I removed it and WALLA!!! All better. Of course I forgot about that when posting earlier Let us know what the problem was if you figure it out!

Ok, my system has started to crash now... Very weird...

I have found in my the C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\Battlefield 2\dmp
directory, there are .dmp files in there... What are these? Is there some out there that I can use to look at these? Maybe there will give me some clue on why this is crashing...

right click my computer>manage>expand event viewer>click system

double click any recent yellow or red flags, see thing other than simple errors like something couldnt start?

also do you get an error message when bf2 crashes?
if not, run bf2 in a window, the error box should pop up then
k0balt
Member

No error message is displayed. BF2 just exits to the Windows Desktop.

I did look in the event log as you suggested. There in fact was an error logged after EACH of the crashes, but it was not in the Application Log, it was in the System Log:

------------
TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
------------

After looking up this message, it was suggested that there may be a virus or spyware on my computer. My computer is clean.

So, I am wondering if BF2 has a problem sometimes if it can not contact the EA Server. If tries and tries and thus crashes... Just a thought... Being a programmer myself, I know that Socket communications can be quite tricky. Maybe the program has issues with a sporadic Internet connetion and crashes?
