didn't try ebay yet for this stuff....have you had good luck with it?

I used pricegrabber.com and Tiger was the cheapest listed that actually HAD a card.....

I had a hard time even finding one....plus, they shipped that day.  Might have spend $25 more.

I would get the dual 7900gts, as with benches, etc they will beat out a 7900gtx (single).  If you can afford $1000+ to get dual 7900gtx's then go for it, but you have to have a good processor and ram, etc that won't bottleneck (at least not a lot) then I say go for it.  If you are running at 2.0ghz or something with a single core processor, don't waste your time.

1x 7900gt and save for next gen, a gt is all you need atm, it plays everything you need it to fine.....and the price is great for performance, performs as well as a 256mb 7800gtx

+2 more for my left and right n*$.

serously... 60 frames per second vs. 80 or 100fps is nothing.  The next "series" of games might requre more, but I doubt it.  I have 1 7800gt and it smokes!

As for the rest of your system you can build SEROUS speed cheap if you try.
opteron 146 or 148 ($150 to $250), you can overclock these = with a FX series chip, my 146 is running at 2.9Ghz
nforce 4 mobo ($100 to $200)
2 gigs DDR500 ($150 to $200)
seagate SATA drive and you're SMOKIN'!
The cheapest I've seen the 7900GT is around $290 (check fatwallet for best prices)

yeah, your right about the opteron 146 and 148, but to go safe a "pretested" chip is recomended. The only problem about those CPUs, they are hardly available out and sometimes too expensive.

Before you buy a 148 for about 250€ you can take a AMD64 3800+ which one is much more faster in the standard clockings and runs stable a 2.7 Ghz too without big expenditure

This was my 1st comp. http://oldcomputers.net/ts1000.html My older sister tried to make a WAR GAME like from the movie WAR GAMES. I was only 9 at the time. So it's all cloudy now(my memory) with bong resin. I* dont think she ever made it work. Then she bought this http://oldcomputers.net/index.html . Ahhhhh the good old days.

And this one is telling us what? Was there a 7900GT inside?

well if u can get both for the same price? some sort of special win? or deal go for it.

your gonna need a beefy CPU to not bottle neck them though. and a generous PSU with alot of amperage. i would suggest the silverstone 650 single 12v line psu. has 42 amp on the 12v should be plennty

get both. if ur cpu isnt up to snuff, either overclock. or just sell the other GTX. one 7900 is enough for any game

opterons have 1 mb of cache (per processor if you go dual core) instead of all the A64s with half that at 512kb.
The worst opteron OCs better than the best a64.  The worst I've seen on the 146s (when not limted by their motherboard) is between 275 and 280Mhz fsb.  I've read a couple people having issues with getting out the 230 range, but from what I read they were running ddr400 ram and without knowing to enable a ram divider ddr400 will stop you at or before that stage.  You have to keep in mind too that there are many people that don't spend the time to figure out how to correctly OC their rig so they hit limits early.  I'm only running an XP90 (alum) HS with a super cheap 92mm fan and I can go up to 275 keeping the ram at a 1:1 ratio.  If I slow the ram down I can push the CPU to 290Mhz, but the ram (because of the divider) is only running in the high 240s, and the CPU gets toasty... 60* is too hot for me, I know it will do it, but I don't want to go past that.  I SERIOUSLY think that 99.9% of opterons are SUPER overclockers, but the couple people not knowing what they are doing scare the rest into thinking that it's hit and miss.  $ for $ you'll get A LOT more out of a opteron than you will out of an a64.  Monarchcompuer sells the oem 146 for $213, if you apply coupon code 41106-120331 it takes $70 off, that drops the price to $143.  Considering these can easily out perform any of the single core a64 chips (and can match an FX-55 or better), you're getting some serious CPU power for your $.

Wow m8ey, this is a lot of text to read... But very intressting, since I´m not in for opterons pretty much.

I know some guys who use this CPUs, all overclocked, but without overclocking they havent had any chances in benchmarks or games against my AMD64-Systems (3200+, 4000+ and X2 4800+). We´ve tested those CPUs on my motherboards (ASUS A8N Deluxe SLI32) and my other hardware to get some serious results.

Hm, dont know, its been a while now (guess nov. 05) and if you report much as you have, further I see that you use a 146 opteron, then you´re maybe right and I wouldnt tell the opposite.

+1 for the excellent report.
