My ping was averaging out at about 22 on all UK and European servers with all the patches. But not with patch 1.22 my ping is bad, and i can barely play the game now because it is soo laggy.

Really need a solution to this so hoping you guys will help ?

Cheers ....

EDIT: another thing which seems to be affected is when all the servers are being found. before it used to find the servers really quickly, but now it is finding 20 at a time but doing it really slowly. so it will show 21, then 41, then 61 etc...
before it used to list about 100 servers straight away and then reach the maximum found in the space it now takes to find about 100 servers.

Change the name of the exe-file and rename the shortcut, works swell.

did you have this same problem and what you are suggesting worked?

Dude5B, try using the search feature next time.  At this moment, it seems that most people's ping has increased.  You should read some of the tweak guides on the web to see if they help.  Here are some of the tewaks that helped me in the past.

Manually update Punkbutser
Use an application to adjust the preformance of you PC.

I have heard that if you change the name of your BF2.exe file, it will help with your performance.  I have also heard that changing the drivers for you video card will solve some issues.

If you need more tweaks just Google BF2 Tweaks.

Edit:  After posting I noticed that you have posted to another thread with the same issue, before you made this thread.  You even recommended how to solve the issue.  FYI: You should not have opened this thread.

have tried using the search feature, and have found other topics along the same line, however none of the previous topics seem to have a solid solution to the problem of a high ping after patching.
Also you will find that the topics found with the search are in relation to patch 1.21, which could be a different problem to patch 1.22.

I agree that i have posted in two posts about the same issue, however, none of these actually say they are talking about patch 1.22, and as this forum used to be titled "Patch 1.21" some of these posts do refer to the older patch.

Did not mean to seem like a smacktard, just remaining you.  I know that you probally did use the Search feature since you post here are the time.  Like I said, it was a friendly reminder, just in case.

So what do you consider a high ping? Mine generally averages at about 45-50. But i get A LOT of "there is a problem with your connection" moments. (I blame my housemate on WoW in the next room) Annoyingly it seems to happen most when i pull the trigger on my sniper rifle... The target vanishes and appears 50ft to the side - DOH!

I'm hoping the new laptop / house i'm getting will help with this.

yeah yeah no worries man, just sometimes, like in the words of Bono, after searching "I still cant find what i am looking for"

@ Kontrolfreq - i am used to having a ping of about 22 on all european and UK servers. But now my ping is 150+ and i consider that i high ping

ive had eratic high spiking ping since 1.21 came out,on local servers my ping averages around the 20 mark but it started to spike upto 700 odd a few times per round & ive nothing on my system set to auto update itself.yesterday though i changed my firewall & antivirus to norton, was previously using nod32 (antivirus) & zonealarm v6.737 (firewall) & i played good few hrs yesterday & never noticed it spike at all so fingers crossed i think i've solved my prob.
i'm not saying this is a sure fire solution but seems to have sorted mine out (at least for one day lol) but i'll let you know if & when it starts to spike again.

Hi mate,

I had the same problem - ping of about 18 on my favourite server (XDR)
and now it jumps up to 262 and I'm getting autokicked....

Hmm, what new applications have I put on my PC that are randomly using
up all my Internet Connection... could it be another great piece of EA software -
The EA Downloader ?

So I logged out of the Downloader and ping is back to 18  :^ )
Although it looks like I won't be able to play any EF games with patch 1.22 - rofl

Hope that helps

I think I have found a fix for this problem..

Uninstall the game (Dont reinstall Uninstall)
Remove BF2 from your firewall (If you gave it access, then remove it from the list) Also remove it from Windows firewall if you have SP2
Install BF2 (Restart your PC after installing)
Install the full 1.22 patch
Re-add it to your firewall (Windows firewall and anyother firewall you may have)

It should work, I have not installed SF or EF yet, but BF2 works with out the GFX lag and hige ping now, Hope this helps.

tried this method today but still got a high ping. i am not totally sure that it is down to the high ping now though. I ave installed the game up to patch 1.21 for now just so i can carry on playing. I joined a server where my ping was about 90, but the game was fine. If this had been a ping of 90 with patch 1.22, the graphical lag would have been really bad.

Still looking for a solution...

I used to have high ping problems. occasionally my ping would suddenly go up to around the 1000 mark and i'd get kicked. After much searching around, i realised i had manually opened a port on my router for a file sharing app. The software firewall on my pc was reporting lots of attacks on the port that was opened on my router. It was these attacks that was causing my ping to shoot up. I closed the port - ping back to normal again.

dont think it would be this problem with my system because i am able to get low pings with patch 1.21, but with 1.22, on the same servers, the pings are well high.

have you tried turning off your anti-virus. (leave firewall on!) if the program has changed it might be thinking its up to no good.

After an uninstall and reinstall with the full patch 1.22 and pb update I still had high ping problems. Then I decided to follow some of the advice found on the tweak site
http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html
Effectively after changing my Bf2.exe file name and shortcut to BFII.exe or whatever you prefer and changing the movie names in the proper file my pinged dropped to the normal teens in game.

Ok I was having terrible issues with Lag spikes and even losing the server plus glitches every 10 feet.
I was about to buy another Gb of mem when i read an article that BF2 just doesnt like Overclocks and I had my Rig way overclocked and running sweet with everything like Prime95, OCCT, Memtest and all the 3d Marks
Then i ran it at stock speeds and the glitching and lagging is gone.

renaming the exe didnt do anything for me. and the movies i just delete em all ya dont need em plus they make loading the game a pain.

well nothing has worked for me, game still runs with a high ping and laggy graphics. Turned everything down low but it makes it worse because it is harder to actually make things out, then by the time i see someone in the distance, i am dead! Tried all the tweeks, but all the tweeks have done is speed up the load time of the game, and speed up my computer when it boots.

EA sent me a reg-delete file which deletes all reference of BF off my system, then told me to re-install the game, but still doesnt work.

Just waiting for the next patch.

OK, I had the same issue ping times in the 600+ range, and I think I have it fixed (it has not happend since I have done this anyway)
1. uninstall the hole program delete profiles and saved images
2. Reinstall
3. install 1.12 Full version
4. install Special Forces
5. install the full 1.22
6. remove the movies
7. have a beer (unless your under 21, then replace beer with pop )

worked for me hope it works for you.
