BF2S Forums Will BF2142 utilize Direct X10 via Windows Vista?

well, since vista has been postponed, and is most likely not coming out until late 2006, there is a chance BF2142 won't support DX10. Or maybe EA will simply wait with the release of BF2142 until vista is out...

no, actually, I was only guessing. As far as I know, the current version of DX is 9.0c, up to XP ( I use Win2000, correct me if I am wrong please ). So I guessed the new version of DX will be 10, coming out with Vista ( which is what birdman69 implied in his post, I believe ). As Vista is the next OS coming from Microsoft, it would be natural for it to feature DX10. If you check wikipedia though, you will find there is some doubt what the future holds for DX http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX.
The article argues that the future API for Vista will look nothing like DX does now.

My comment was originally aimed at making fun of the release dates set by EA ( for BF2142 ) and MS ( for Vista ).

Still, BF2 has "officially" only been tested on XP ( although it will run on Win2000 ). So there is a chance BF2142 will be Vista-only, depending on the release dates of both products. Personally, I believe those chances are slim, since BF2142 is supposed to come out before Vista, but who am I to speculate on such metaphysical issues as release dates ?

Everyone is looking over the engine for BF 2142.  From the trailer that EA has given us, it seems that it is built on the same engine as BF2.  If this is true, then you will only need DX9.0c.  If they were to use DX 10, they would have a new engine.
