I have always been wanting to upgrade my graphics card.  I have a GeForce 5500 128MB card that I got almost a year ago.  I run BF2 fine, but most of todays games do not allow for decent graphics with this card.  BF2 looks horrible with it but I have never really cared because the game is just so good.  I was thinking of a GeForce 6600 OC 128MB since it tends to come on sale.  I will mant to get a new card with in the month so I can run Elderscrolls 4 Oblivion when it comes out.  I would prefer if I didn't have to play Oblivion with a poor graphics card.

Thanks for your advice!

6600 GT is a better buy, I had one and was pretty happy withit. However, with the way things are going, realistically you should save up a bit and upgrade you system to something with PCI-Express -- AGP is well on it's way out now.

if u have pci-e (which i think u dont) get the 7800 gt, and just get a pci-e competible board since agp is dead

Thanks for the advice, but this morning an ati radeon x850 Pro 256MB just came on sale for $299 CDN.  I have seen several reviews and they seem to be mostly positive.  I was wondering what is better the x800 series or the x850 series.  I have never had an ati card either and was just wondering if they are just as good as nvidia since I have never had any problems with nvidia.

Thanks again.

PCI-e or AGP? As someone just said get PCI-e, AGP is a dead technology (hense i'll be upgrading from my AGP X800XT 256MB soon)

I cannot say which is better in comparison to NV's offering.  From what I can tell, you have CDN$300 to spare.  I suggest looking up the 7800GS card, as this is the highest end card on the AGP front you'll ever see for a very long time.  If you plan on keeping the system for another 2 years (at least), then this is definitely the card to get.  Otherwise, go as cheap as you can with a $150-$200 range and start saving up for a system overhaul.
