Give us some more specs, motherboard, ram, processor, HDDs etc...
BF2 is optimized for Nvidia cards, it hates ATI.

I got like 30fps with my 128Mb X800 Pro on my old computer...of course it did have 2gigs of ram,but it was an Intel (shudder). Intel just dropped even lower in my opinion too, supplying processors to Apple...what are they thinkning???

I had that problem one time... I think I narrowed it down to some runaway rogue process.  Did you try running the game with only the bare minimum?  Check for rogue processes and kill 'em if you see them.  From the sound of it, it seems something is eating up your CPU resource.

It is Apple who signed Intel up for the processor deal.  It is not Intel's choice but rather Intel is selected instead.  Intel can still churn out processors and their Core Duo and Pentium-M series is, by far, better than your current Prescott-based processors.  For Apple to choose the Core Duo and Solo processors reveals that they are selective on which processor series they choose to use for their computers.  And so far, Apple is 3-0 in their choosing.

Apple can very well go with AMD.  But what good will that do?  AMD has a smaller market share.  Apple needed a marketing powerhouse and Intel is big enough to do just that.  Intel is also a name many people will recognize even if some have sided with AMD through thick and thin.  I definitely would like to see Apple pick AMD over Intel.  But Apple needed additional recognition and marketing power to further increase their market share over the computing world.  Intel can help them do just that.  In all the years that AMD has proven in a variety of performance benchmarks in multimedia and gaming, how many AMD commercials have you seen?  If Apple wanted to tap into the Windows market share, they cannot go with AMD.
