I have an AMD 3500+ but I am wondering what is the preformance difference between 512kb and 1mb L2 cache

The difference will be very very small.  I was about to mention the thing with Intel CPUs but L2 cache sizes with AMD CPUs make very small differences.  The 1MB L2 cache will help but you probably won't notice the difference 99% of the time.

eerrrrrrm at a guess id say the diff is about 512k?.....do i win a prize?...i have an AMD 64 3800x2....think it has 1 or 2mb L2 cache....not sure what the real diff is but is it something to do with the CPU not having to use normal memory so it can perform quicker?...will look at the spec sheet and report back......

Err...

O.K. a quick suggestion if your looking for an upgrade just go for the fastest dual core you can afford. Difference between 512K and 1Mb is probably only about 5%. Of course you won't notice any in game b/c the cpu isn't much of a bottleneck.

My friend is actually using a XP1800 (256Kb cache) with 1G of ram and a x850pro... works just fine with decent settings.

ok, i am OCing my 3500+ 200mhz and its runs 30 degrees celcius, i just wanted to know if cache made a difference so i dont have to upgrade my processor because thats a whole 2x the difference in cache.

I was thinking about upgrading to a way better one and i can use this cpu on my other computer, but since its not that much of a difference i can OC the difference

i have a 3500+ with a gig of ram. I run the game on high across the board. However i did have a AGP GeForce 4 something or other with 256MB on the card. I upgraded the card to a PCI Express x16 GeForce 6800GS and then was able ot run everything on high. Before the vid card upgrade i was only running a few items at medium and te rest at low. Also with the TV missiles i now get a 95 - 98% hit ratio (roughly) on average. Before the upgrade i was lucky to get 50%.

So if your looking to improve game performance look to your vid card first as it sounds like we have the same cpu and ram and i was having issues with performance before the vid upgrade.

so wtf... lower cache = better oc? i am really confused. since amd cpus w/ higher cache are more expansive than lower cache... this is logical but i am omgwtfbbqing now

less cache = less heat emmited and less power used = higher overclock, maybe higher by 50-100 mhz but not much higher
