I Really.....Really wish
Announcement
Just bought a new 2022 Ford Explorer XLT on Wednesday. The Crown Vic's engine completely died from a seized valve less than a week after I got onto day shift back in September, so I sold it, saved up some money for a few months and my parents also helped me with the down payment. A lot of people might think it was a dumb purchase because it's brand new and also domestic, but buying at least one new car has always been on my bucket list and with used car prices being what they are, it seems like there's never been a better time to buy new. It also seemed like the most spiritual successor to the Crown Vic as well since they don't make them anymore. Plus I bought a package from the dealership where the engine is supposedly fully warrantied for as long as I own it, so at least there's that.
It's easily the fastest thing I've ever driven, it's nearly fucking terrifying how quickly this thing can pick up speed when I want it to. It weighs probably 600 lbs more than my 4,100 lb Crown Vic did and the engine is literally half the size, but with these modern tiny aggressively tuned factory-turbocharged engines, it doesn't even matter, it just hauls ass and handles like a much lighter vehicle.

How much over MSRP did you pay? I am planning to drive my car until the wheels fall off. I want to save money for a condo.

My stepdad fortunately knows a guy who's good friends with a commercial dealer about an hour away, and he absolutely hooked me up. He basically said "Just order it from Ford's website exactly how you want it and then when it gets here, you can come in and pay MSRP, all I ask is that you don't pester me at all about when it's gonna get here". My local dealership was charging 6,000 over MSRP on every new Explorer they had, which put them all out of my price range. They had a 2017 Explorer XLT with like 75,000 miles on it that was still going for $29.5K after taxes & fees.
If the deal had fallen through for any reason, I probably would've gone with a Subaru Legacy. The MSRP is over $10,000 cheaper so there's more cushion for dealership pricing bullshit, plus they're surprisingly large and good-looking for a modern sedan, and AWD is standard. The Crown Vic had spun off the road in winter conditions at least once every other year that I owned it, I'm completely done driving things that aren't either AWD or 4WD.

Good stuff. Got pictures?

From my front porch:

Best picture:

I really like the taillights on this generation of Explorer, also I didn't realize I had a spoiler until I took this pic:

I might have to do a proper photoshoot of some sort while it's still so shiny, it really is a gorgeous truck and these are only the first daytime pics I've taken of it.

Hopefully your new plate number won't match your temporary. Posting that stuff always makes me nervous about doxxing.
i'm not a security expert but i don't think you can even do anything with a license plate number. think you'd need access to like secure law enforcement or dmv databases and shit. if it was easy you'd probably hear about a lot of stalking cases etc where it started with some person getting a license plateunnamednewbie13 wrote:

i just ordered pizza and told them to leave the bill under the windscreen wiper.
It's not the worst information you can have online but it isn't completely harmless. One more detail on your internet footprint usable by stalkers, thieves, and cybercriminals. It's so effortless to blur and so commonly done, that it's 'why not' rather than 'why' imo.lil_droo wrote:

This is just a temporary plate though, I expect the actual will be a different number.
