No matter what server Im on or what settings i use, i always get insane lag, choppyness, random "turn arounds", connection errors, and many other connection based problems. I dont see where this could be coming from, and I'll give you an example of my setup and a server i "try" and play on often.

Trace of the specific server I'm trying to connect to (notice low ping and no loss or choke anywhere)

My Rig

I know my Video Card blows ass, but i dont see how it could be causing these connection type problems

And fuck EA, they wont return any of my support emails.

I've forwarded 16567 for BF2 and told antivirius to ignore bf2 and related processes.

Im tired of trying to climb ladders and end up 5 feet away facing opposite direction, flying then suddenly ending up underwater or strait into a cliff, try to shoot people as they float around onscreen then just disapear.

HELP PLEASE!!!!

I'm guessing your vid card sux, try turning down your fps until you upgrade

>game.lockFps x , where x is somewhere below 100

edit: also type

>renderer.drawfps 1, to see fps in upper left corner

yea ive used both fraps fps meter and the renderer command, I usually only get 20-30 fps anyways.

But getting a whole lot of "There Is A Problem With Your Connection" errors woudlent be my vid card would it?

If your connection is good, try a different server instead of the one you play at.  20-30 fps, lol, I wouldn't even play.  You are missing a good gaming experience using your low settings and card.  Just fork out the cash to upgrade and call it the day.

Actually the vid card may not be the issue here. Are you using an on board sound decoder on the motherboard?
If so then turn of the Enable EAX option. Also set the quality to Low.  I have had issue with my on board sound and once I turned it to low it fixed my extreme lag issues. I don't know why but suddenly it did. Perhaps it was because of the excessive CPU time usage. My vid card is a 9800 Pro. So I don't have issues in the Video Rendering  department at medium settings. It wouldn't hurt to upgrade your Vid card.

Don't think you suddenly need to go to PCI-Express x16. If you have a x8 AGP card slot then simply get another better AGP slot vid card. They are about $250 now and are going down. A Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb AGP x8 card costs about $205 while a GeForce 9800 is going to vary and be higher in cost.

That upgrade alone will set your system at a level that BF2 should operate just fine. Add a cheap ass Sound Blaster Live sound card to it for like $45 and you will have very nice sound and be able to use Hardware decoding instead of Software which again will cut even more down from your processor leaving it free to do game stuff.

So for some smart money. And $300 you are looking at a rather nice system where you will be wondering how you did without.

That's my advice.
Cheers.

Well i have onbaord sound, but im currently using a old (but good) soundblaster card, mainly becuase of the midi port for my joystick. I Know i need a new card, And I've got my eyes set on a 6600GT, but Still saving for it. Ive played on a computer with a 7800GTX, so i understand the true potential of the games performance.

Ill try the fiddling with the sound. As for the servers, however, this was a good one. Low ping and good connections to all hosts, so i still dont see how these lag like issues are comming up.

I know pc components are very important , but i had a fairly high end pc and which run bf1942 like a dream, then i got the same problems as as u describe, after loads of virus and spyware scans , i still had the problem . The only thing that worked was a reformat, not sure if it was a bad driver or looking at adult sites?
