Everytime I play IronGator, Warlord, and several others, I get lag. Now, I know lag is part of online gaming, but in SF and BF2, the lag many ties renders the game unplayable. For example, in Warlord, I'll be in the palace, turn around ever so slightly, and end up doing 5 consecutive 360 spins. On almost every map I play there's lag; it's just that on some so choppy that's it's unplayable, on others, it's tolerable. I'm running P4 3.2 GHz, 1 Gig or RAM, 6800 OC Edition. I doubt it's my system, ecaue I can play oter demanding games (HL2, COD2, Splinter Cell 3, Battlefront 2, etc.) sans any problem.

Secondly, I have unlocked all 3 SF guns, but in game, I can only choose from 2, and in each map I can choose from 2 different guns. For example, in Mass Destruction, I can choose from the basic SF gun or the G36C. But in IronGator I can choose from the G36C or the ScarL. Why is this?

These are my two main problems (more so the former than the latter, because I really enjoy playing BF2 and SF but the lag makes it unenjoyable).

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

P.S. I find that in WarLord for exmample, I am able to play with guns that I haven't unlocked yet, why?

Iron Gator = Major lag normally

You can't use all SF guns on SF
Try em on normal BF2 =p

As far as the lag is concerned, I've heard that changing aspects of your PunkBuster config can provide performance benefits, bandwidth-wise.  You should do some forum/Google searches for that kind of stuff, though.

As far as the unlocks are concerned, remember that the SF weapons are deemed to be 2nd Tier unlocks in standard BF2.  This means that you'll have full access to the SF weapons while playing SF because they're not unlocks.  Further, you can't use SF weapons as unlocks in SF.  (I know that sounds pretty confusing).

For example, the Medic G36E is the default SEAL Assault Rifle in SF.  You can still use the L85A1 (if you've unlocked it, but that's it).  If you're playing on one of the armies in SF that uses a different basic weapon, you can't use the G36E as an unlock.

I hope that clears it up for you.

the unlocks work in a tier system, with the tier one unlocks being the ones were always available for unlocking and tier 2 being the sf unlocks.  Tier 1 unlocks are usable on any team in sf and can be used in any existing version of the game at any time, tier 2 guns are only unlocks in vanilla bf2, in sf they are standard weapons for certain armies, if you are russian spetznas, insurgensts, mec specialists or rebels you obviously won't be given as a primary a gun that is standard for sas or seals, as most of the sf unlocks tend to be, so you only have a choice between the tier one unlock and the stock russian or whatever gun (usually an ak-series or similar).

I'll try and clear the unlocks thing up.
SAS core weapons include: Support unlock, Engineer unlock, Medic unlock, Assault unlock.
SEAL core weapons include: Spec. Ops unlock.

You are unlocking the SF weapons to use in core BF2, not in SF itself, because they are normal SF weapons. That's why you can use them without unlocking them, because technically, they're not unlocks. However, in Core BF2, you can chose one of three weapons for each class: The core weapon, the unlock weapon, and the SF weapon.

Also, try using Search on these forums. I'm pretty sure it's been covered many times before.

i dont really know but if you have a anti-virus program running in the backgroudn you might want to turn that off and just face its lower your settings.

All the unlocks you use in vanilla bf2 are all the basic weapons in SF hope that works?

I believe I understand the the unlock issue. The SF guns are standard in BF2:SF and differ from team to team. If I am SAS, then I will have different SF guns than if I were Rebels. However, SF guns aren't standard in core BF2; once I rank and they are unlcoked in SF, then I can use them in core BF2. But when they are unlocked, will I be able to choose from all of them in core BF2? For example, if I unlock all 3 SF guns, will I be able to choose from all 3 ingame in core BF2?

Regarding the lag, I tried to turning off my AV, and it had no affect. My drivers are updated. As I said, I doubt it's my system, since other games run fine. I doubt reinstalling BF2 will help, correct? Is it simply that BF2 is naturally laggy?

Any more help is welcomed, thank you.

For me BF2 is running like a dream on high settings, but on SF i face major lag problems.
On SF it helped a bit when i turned dynamic lights/shadows off, AA off, everything else on high/medium, lighting maybe on low.

Im having 3.3GHz, 1Gb, 6600gt system

on SF I try to avoid 64 players servers, I go for 32 max

I'll try turning off the unnecessary graphics settings. But I think the majority ofthe main problem, at its core, isn't the computers or the players, it's the way the game is programmed.

If it runs fine for any others, please post how (your settings, any tweeks or tricks, tips, etc.)

I run pretty well on all SF maps.  I only see lag on Warlord in the palace when it is just a crazy war zone.

I tried some of the suggestions on this site.  Some worked, but some didn't and made it worse.  I recommend doing the following:

#1 Reducing the number of punkbuster hard drive checks
#3 Changing the size of the AGP aperture
#5 Updating your punkbuster
#6 Disable the intro movies

A couple things that i have done

1) turn off windows automatic update (this was a big help)

2) picked up more ram i am now running 2 gig's of ram the diffrence is AMAZING. What was acting like lag to me was really hard drive studder.  I recomend this highly to anyone. Yes, pick up high performance ram if you can afford to, it does improve play I have tested this it is more than just a theory.
