Since October 2002, 86 individuals have been convicted of any type of election fraud – not necessarily voter impersonation – in federal elections, out of 196,139,871 ballots cast. During the same time frame, there have been ten cases of voter impersonation. To put it in context, you are more likely to be killed by a bolt of lightning, to win an Olympic medal, to drown in a bathtub, to become a saint, or die from a mountain lion attack in California than to witness voter impersonation.

back your shit up or GTFO
I live in New York, ex-home of Tammany Hall. They used to pull the Irish and Italians off the boat and directly into the voting booth to vote (D). Hell, Lincoln almost lost the state to a 3rd party. FDR brought New York style machine politics to the rest of the country. The whole divide and conquer shit didn't come from Karl Rove, but the wheelchaired 'hero'. He brought all the bullshit he learned from fighting Tammany with him into the Oval Office.

Yes, because all instances are caught, just like every pot smoker is busted by the cops.

Blame ACORN for the current shitstorm and media focus.

A sizable chunk of people are caught smoking pot because there a re a lot of pot smokers. If there was a lot of voter fraud there would be more arrest for voter fraud.

Re: State ID's

I think it was Texas that said NRA IDs were valid to vote but state university IDs weren't. Really silly.
Can you vote in another state if you're there for college, or do you have to mail in an absentee ballot to your home state? Because if it's the latter, then that Texas rule may make sense. I know here at UMD our student IDs all look the same regardless of whether you're in-state or out-of-state. Not even any address on 'em.

You would have to change your residence by proving you live full time in the state. College students don't qualify though because then states couldn't rape out-of-state students on tuition.

Short answer: absentee ballot only

Well then I don't see why they'd accept university IDs since I don't think it's common practice to designate tuition status on them. The whole point of voter ID laws is to prove you can vote there (or to disenfranchise voters, depending on how you look at it), so IDK why they'd take a card that probably only has your name, ID number and issue date on it.

Student ID's don't prove you're a citizen either. In oz they send you a letter to enrol (or you get a fine) filling in either citizen or non citizen, if citizen write down your citizen, birth certificate or passport number, you show up to voting place state name and address and vote (or you get a fine).

Preventing another 86 causes of voter fraud stretched over a decade is not worth hassling millions of people.

Bringing two pieces of paper or an ID card is a hassle now?

I'm sure glad we never "hassle" people over using credit cards, buying alcohol, taking a trip on an airline, etc... /sarcasm

If you don't drive, don't travel, and can't afford to use a credit card, then it is a hassle to present valid ID. But anyone can get a library card, or a membership to Ralph's.
