To me this is just a story about a really stupid policy that will probably never directly affect me.

I read this story last week. If kids are flying without a parent or guardian the airline should just have their staff check up on them, or the parents should purchase an extra spare seat next to them.

Didn't Qantas do the exact same thing and had to change their policy? Funny Virgin still hasn't catch up... Don't know why there is a thread about this tbh.

Virgin is shithouse anyway. Don't fly with them.

i remember flying alone when i was around 12 and the airline hostess checked up on me like every 15 minutes or so. i thought it was a standard thing, i was more worried about where to go than the people around me

Virgin are better than Qantas IMO. And I fly a lot.

Last time I flew with Qantas we had to purchase extra luggage at $30 per item despite coming in under the weight requirement. Since we were travelling as a band and had two items to check in each it cost us an additional $120. Flying on Jetstar (their own airline as I'm sure you're aware) we did no have this issue, despite Qantas being their "premium" service. Virgin give musicians an extra 12kg free, and with no item limit afaik.

It's not luck, it is their actual policy on checked and carry on luggage. One piece of each or pay for extra items. Even with Jetstar you can have up to four checked items and as long as they don't go over the weight quota you aren't charged extra.

I think Qantas is just using Jetstar to dominate the domestic market, but Qantas int'l doesn't really have any big fees on extra luggages, but Jetstar international on the other hand... lol.

Well I mean Qantas points are more useful if you travel overseas a lot... but that's about it.

I travel a lot domestically (girlfriend interstate, band tours a couple times a year) so I've become quite familiar with all three.

Jetstar: cheap but pay for extras of course and they have the most delays with their flights for all sorts of reasons.

Virgin: more expensive with nicer planes IMO, I would put them between Jetstar and Qantas. V Australia is really good, I'd definitely fly internationally with Virgin again.

Qantas: big planes and unless you pay for a more premium ticket you get put in like row 54 which is annoying getting on and off as you have to wait for ages, lol. Plus the baggage thing is a hassle. But you get free food and drinks which is cool.

For me I tend to fly the cheapest, so Jetstar. Plus I can usually get an aisle seat in like row 5 so it means when we land and have parked I can jump up and be one of the first off the plane, lol

someone in TSA or American Airlines stole a nintendo DS from my grandma's stowaway luggage, fucking cocksuckers. that's probably the best job to have if you're a kleptomaniac.

I think there would be a lot more complaints if they had a policy to sit men next to kids... mostly complaints from the men

I got fed up with one that was kicking my seat, that I stood up, turned around, and told it to his face.  I also gave the mom a dirty look since she let it happen until I got pissed.
