Happy Birthday. Glad to see you still dress like a hipster into your 30's. I mean that seriously.

thank you, friend.

a gabardine, trousers and trainers are hipster wear? the ‘in’ style thesedays is streetwear. i basically dress smart-formal, tbh. i notably skipped the last few major hipster trends, viz. ‘manly men’ with giant groomed beards and lumberjack boots, and ‘bad boys with a soft centre’ with full sleeves of tattoos and piercings.

i think this might be a ‘normal dress standards in USA vs europe’ thing.

Teenagers are going to be calling you grandpa now, if they haven't already like 5 years ago.

I think anyone with conscious memory of the Y2K scare is probably going to feel a little different from "kids these days."

I didn't know Ass-Fresh was a beer brand.

Damn newbie saw it first.

Glad you're following the lager-lout lifestyle.

cass is horrible and cheap, but it's what koreans mix witih soju to make 'somek'. it would be a crying shame to mix a decent beer or ale with a white spirit.

i spent my 20s avoiding lager in the UK and i don't mind drinking it here with the locals. 'when in rome ...' and all that.

for all their high consumption of native cheap lagers like cass, koreans are remarkably not-loutish. almost zero violence or street altercations here, even with the highest alcohol consumption in the world.

maybe loutishness is something inherent to inferior white genetics? there's your homework for the day.

Maybe adding white spirit is the key, I use it for paint brushes.

soju is really nice. 8-12% and goes down easy. but yeah, mixing with nice beers is a waste.

That's a really specific shoe. But you know what, I own a pair of bowling shoes. I am not one to criticize.

still lol’ing at larssen calling my shoes bad when they’ve been written about in GQ as ‘all time classics’.

the fact im dating a fashion designer in one of the world’s most fashion-conscious cities doesn’t matter … she wears dr martens!

an anonymous, faceless faux-german who won’t post any details about himself because he thinks he’s going to be the next sebastian kurZ really knows how to dress.

get cucked

There's a stereotype here that Europeans will make fun of you for wearing sneakers. Maybe if I flew to Europe, I'd get some of those formal looking shoes with sneaker interiors. I would plan to be on my feet, a lot.

I thought it was weirdly the stereotype that American tourists in Europe would wear white tennis shoes and stick out, but oddly as well that it was also a reciprocal for Europeans here, so it was more of a "tourist" look than anything else. I knew of those New Balance as dad shoes (especially since my dad has like 3 pairs), but never heard about "trendy" fashion people wearing them.

NB and Asics make the rounds on comfort lists. Never got a chance to try Clouds, Hoka, Brooks, though I hear good things about them. Sort of comfort would be a prerequisite for my more frequenting standing desks even if I was wearing slacks.

Some level of water resistance is nice (Washington) which just complicates things. Take a spare pair around in a gym bag just for tromping outside. In addition to steel toes, which is a nice thing to have for work around the house. Waterproof steel-toed shoes, not the best comfort. Or maybe the ones I've tried just suck.

they ARE the ultimate dad shoe. but they're also cited in fashion looks a lot.

i could only bring 3 pairs of shoes with me to korea. for sneakers/trainers, these were the obvious candidate. they're comfy af and work equally well with a suit and casual attire.

they’re just a pair of shoes. i own about 5 pairs of shoes and i’ve bought the same 2-3 shoes for most of my 20s. i really do not care about sneakers or streetwear. a lot of people collect trainers and consider it a ‘hobby’. unsurprisingly, i’m not one of them.

is it news to you that some people are interested in fashion? i’m far from a fashionista. some people invest serious amounts of time, money and effort into this sort of thing. check out this app called ‘instagram’, it’s what all the kids are using thesedays.
