I missed the funeral of an acquaintance. He passed unexpectedly. I dated a (easy) close friend of his off and on a couple of times. I saw her at his online organ donation flag raising video on Facebook. If I was more on top of things I would have gotten dressed up, went to the funeral, said hi to the girl, and use that as a way back in.
Why is it a good thing that I missed the funeral? This would be have been tremendously bad karma.

it's pride month every month in the vatican city.SuperJail Warden wrote:

This has been a very exciting week. This week I learned:
- I'm right wing
- I'm a neo-nazi
- I have tattoos
I think there were a few others

Apparently I have neglected to go to the dentist since 2015, but no cavities or trouble with my wisdom teeth, so that's a win.
I had only one cavity over an equally long dentist visit break. All that money paid into dental insurance and never used it. Jay argued once that Dental Insurance was a scam.
Jay might have a point from plan to plan. In-house dental insurance, always felt like I was paying more in the long run. Even simple hygienist/exam appointments still felt needlessly expensive.
As part of the ACA I believe you get a free annual checkup or something. Dental insurance that included a once a year cleaning/check up would be nice.
Comprehensive eye and tooth care should just be a part of national health care, period. Why are teeth and vision not important?
Saw a Karen freakout and argument in Walgreens. A young white lady and her husband arguing with an old white lady. The young lady took out her phone and recorded the other one while calling her a Karen.
Old lady: "You called me an Evangelical"
I think the young lady mentioned she was Russian
Old lady: "You can go back to there"
Young lady: "So now you are racist against Russians"
Old lady: "I'm a racist, I am racist?"
Young lady: "You are a Karen"
There's more and it was all very exciting. I tried to record it on my phone but could figure out how to record video in time.

I think the one good thing about camera phones is that sometimes situations can be diffused just by reminding another party that you're recording, even if you're not. Like they'll bluster and shout about not caring about that, but elect to not cross the length of the street to have a go.
If you are ever recorded on a camera phone doing something that will go viral you should immediately apologize.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Pride, man.
I comfortably passed a licensing exam just now. By Christmas I will have a Master degree and can take an admin job.
Congratulations on passing the exam. You don't have to spend considerable time in the trenches before you get an admin position?
Thank you, Ken.
I don't think there is any legal requirement for me to do more trench duty before I can move into admin. There are so many different types of admin roles too. I don't want to be a supervisor of other adults. I rather work with parents or legal compliance. My subfield is high growth though I am a little worried because the republican running for governor wants to stop the expansion of my subfield since we are devouring property taxes.
I worked hard to get into the place I am at now and really want that pension but considering I busted my ass these last two years doing all of this graduate stuff, $60,000 a year + a promise of a pension seems low for my qualifications? I demand graduate pay for graduate education! There must be some consultant grift out there for me.

If you went into construction contracting you could do your time in the trenches and then drop out of whatever business to be a consultant for the big bucks. It's like people have a basic expectation to pay more for your services just because of the title sometimes. Hinges on the economy of course, but education also hinges on government whim sometimes. My own school district in high school seemed to have a disproportionate amount of administrators who did little work next to the teachers. Like most of them could have just WFH without the need for a huge annex.
I remember walking around the offices there and seeing a crate full of rubber chickens and frisbees, for some sort of student anger management program, and thinking that there must have been a better use for resources. Whatever though, if it was a part of actual psychiatric/therapeutic care for troubled teens.

You would be surprised how cheap stuff is if you get it through specific suppliers. I got a $200 budget to spend last year and bought random stuff just to make sure I spent my full amount. Not even sure where I would go to pick up the stuff I bought with the stipend they gave me. I am sure I have seen boxes of things people buy that just sit in the mail delivery offices unopened because they had to 'use or lose' their stipend.
It's nice that you get a stipend for that sort of thing. In your shoes I might just fill a supply closet for students in case they run dry in class or are struggling to meet requirements.
Ideally they'd be allowed water in class, and I might use some of that on one of those bottled dispensers and paper cups. Staying hydrated seems like a basic human requirement and it always annoys me when I see school rules run contrary to letting their students do that sort of thing. Not letting a kid go take a dump if they need, what are we trying to run here? Military boot camp?
e: See a lot of the freakout videos on youtube thumbnails of some high schooler losing their shit and trashing the classroom, tHiS iS WhY We CaN'T hAve NicE ThIngS boo-hoo. Saw teacher breakdowns too. None of that happened at any of my schools, a redeeming factor of that experience.

You wouldn't be allowed to give the kids water. Especially young kids and ones with disabilities. And even if you were, do you really want to subsidize the school/parents job to keep the kids hydrated? Do you know what happens when you feed wildlife?

Undoubtedly not allowed, but ideally yes. Would I really want with my own money? Not particularly. But if I had a stipend to max out, I'd rather it go into that stuff actually used rather than a bunch of unopened boxes in some storage room or locker somewhere collecting dust.
I also want Republicans to stop attacking free lunches. Consider it an investment, teach about healthy eating and maybe have some measurable impact on performance. Sure some people will intentionally freeload on it but it'll still help the people who actually need it. Red states raking in more federal money than they put out shouldn't get to complain about freeloaders in this vein, either.

Probably rules for classrooms shouldn't hinge on rules for special education classrooms.

There have been studies indicating that poor diets can have a negative impact on behavior too. Probably leading to more public freakouts.

lol, imagine taking half the high school courses in your senior year because you have classes at a tech college later, and then being harassed by police or campus staff for delinquency. I wonder if that's happened.

Comments indicate it's one of those classes for kids that would otherwise be kicked out? I remember alternative high schools being an all-in-wonder thing for teens that had jobs as well as the troublemakers. Way to go lumping them in together, I guess.SuperJail Warden wrote:
