i actually think it makes perfect sense what macbeth is saying. people with mental health issues are emotionally vulnerable and picking them up for sex can be morally dubious. even if they do make 'informed consent', you can still understand what you're doing pretty well. i think it's more acceptable to pick up a sound-minded 17 year old. teenagers are sending one another nudes on snapchat now a long time before 17. as long as you're not like a 30-something adult literally grooming someone, i don't see why it's more morally wrong than hitting on emotionally broken people.

the difference is macbeth fawning over his 17 year old cousin (and making comparisons to a porn star) vs. me DATING a girl who then went through a nervous breakdown.  Macbeth lusting over his 17 year old cousin isn't the same as me dating someone who thought she had mental problems.  It's not like i'm cruising by the pysch ward with my arm out the window tryna holla at some 5150 wackos.  And you're making an assumption that a 17 year old is of sound mind, which you don't know.  So one assumption that I'm trawling mental health clinics "hitting on emotionally broken people" and the other assumption that macbeth's 17 year old cousin is perfectly capable of taking sexual advances from 23 year old macbeth.  Great job!

i have met 17 year olds who are very mature and know exactly what they want, definitely way ahead of boys their age (though i should hasten to add i haven't had occasion or inclination to date any myself). by contrast i have met 25 year olds who are certifiably nuts and wracked with all sorts of issues, complexes, and vulnerabilities (in fact i am talking to one now, a high-society type with her own psychoanalyst and the most changeable moods going; she would be so easy to exploit and is probably pursuing me for all the wrong reasons). that was my main point. i don't really make much of macbeth 'lusting' whereas you were 'dating': that's just idle shit-talk that populates most of this forum. i very much doubt he's actually peeping on his cousin at family functions. he's just talking shit. and the principle is pretty sound. some 17 year olds are perfectly mature and many young adults are total fuckups.
