Managing so many people is hard. There are bound to be bad results in many ways.

Kind of a bullshit argument though once you bring up our federal system. The country is divided into 50 smaller administration zones which are supposed to be able to provide better local results than the government in Washington. In reality, the states often make things worse for people.

the size of your population is irrelevant. there is such a thing as proportion or relative measurement. it has nothing to do with how your country is governed or ruled, either, let alone 'people management'. other liberal democracies do not have this level of gun crime, nor the seeming notoriety and media firestorming around the issue. the federal arrangement just makes the legal status of gun ownership and licensing a bureaucratic nightmare. it doesn't encourage actual violence.

You see the snarky bullshit comments every time there is a shooting of "Well, look at Chicago, that's a gun-free zone, HUEHUEHUE LIBERALS!" which just fails to recognize the stark contrast between the laws Illinois and Cook County have made and the fact that you can jump over the border to Illinois or Indiana and get a gun in an hour (to a lesser extent, the same goes for fireworks). That and the "2nd Amendment was made for us to overthrow the tyrannical government!" argument that has been repeated so much that the lie has become reality have really made rational arguments, or even suggesting reasonable means to limit access to firearms will be met with derision or being called a Nazi.

When I was talking about the problem of federalism, I was speaking about it generally and not in relation to gun violence. I don't care for the federalist system.

Gun violence is pretty much an engrained part of our culture now that is divorced from law or government at this point.

How do you propose we get rid of guns? House to house searches? We do such a good job stopping the importation of drugs...

why use the quote tool if you are going to then immediately misattribute what someone is saying? you just quoted a short and pithy post and made out i told you to get rid of all of your guns. where in those 4 lines was that sentiment?

At least 10 killed in a college in California. My younger sister in college now. It makes me feel sick thinking that stuff like this could happen to her.

It was more the discrepancy in States that was confusing.

CNN.com said California at first. They probably reported on it while it was happening and got the state wrong in a rush of information.

It's also the first day marijuana is legal there. Clearly it's a pot-crazed maniac.

You know some stoner skipped class to smoke and inadvertently saved their life.
