Yeah, it's mainly about different styles of beer. You have your Belgians which are usually bottle fermented wheat beers that have fruit flavors in them. Stuff like Blue Moon (Coors) and Hoegaarden (InBev) copy that style. Then you have IPA (India Pale Ales) which are known for having about double the hops of normal beers. Hops is related to weed I think, and gives it a bitter taste and a herby smell. On the other end of the scale you have porters and stouts, which are usually thick and dark, like Guinness.RTHKI wrote:

There are a number of beers that require differnet glasses for differnet reasons. Most of the time it has to do with tiny bit of sediment at the bottom and the amount thereof.Jay wrote:
i don't think it does much at all honestly. sam adams had a marketing campaign a little while ago about their special glasses with laser etched bottoms that are supposed to cause bubbles to rise like champagne. I think the idea was that it forces the flavors to disperse in the beer, aerating them, and distributing them evenly. beer does taste better in a glass, but i don't think the glass type really matters. I could be wrong though, it's not something i ever looked into. i think it's the same concept as wine glasses.

La Chouffe and Duvel are the first (and most common) that come to mind, but I've heard of several other that needed different glasses, some even had unique pouring instructions to go with them.
I am by no means a beer connaisseur, but don't underestimate it. There are some special ones out there
fuck sake its a delivery device for alcohol who gives a rats ass if you drink it out of a mason jar or some special yuppie look at me glass.Jay wrote:
