A lot of American, and everywhere else, accents and vernacular are effectively put on and are hard to understand so yeah don't care if Duane from Bumfuck feigns the inability to understand basic English.

OTOH I had an Indian working for me who communicated to Indian suppliers in English and I had no idea what either of them were writing or saying.

Thats pretty miserable Ken, 'terminating' people because they had the misfortune of poor mentoring and slack accountability.

Thats on the company, not them.

I've been in a few companies with shitty management which blame employees for their shitty management.
I just fired someone that has been at my company for 33 years. Addition by subtraction. Is 33 years enough time to understand it's not misfortune, but a terrible attitude and work ethic?

Were they in the same role for 33 years? Maybe work isn't their priority.

I'm glad that Jack Welsh's entire 40 year career is now discredited. Is 40 years long enough to fail?

Really loving the new expense process.

A new training portal is being built on the intranet, there are some new videos and documents to help you with your submission. This is a changing space with the vision to be a one stop shop for all questions Concur, please check it out if you have any questions and as always finance is available to answer questions and to help guide you in your submission.
Intranet Home Page > Finance Portal > Concur
Please remember when submitting your claim to:
•    Populate all credit card expenses into one report. Please do not split into trips or submit one report per expense.
•    Please follow the standard format of naming your claims as Name-Month-Year (for example, John Smith – January 2026).
•    Check attendees are categorised correctly e.g. Employee/ business guest and travelling/ not travelling
•    Check the Tax value listed on expense line matches receipt
•    Ensure any missing receipts have a “missing receipt declaration” and Tax removed
•    Purchases that have an approved PO, select expense type “PO Clearing” and enter PO number into “Purchase Order No” field. If your PO is for a CAPEX or WBS, please only complete to PO number field.
•    There should be no “Company paid” or “Pending card transaction” Payment Types in your submission. Please check this before submitting, if these are submitted in error we need to return the report and the approval process starts again. (those who do not have a bank transaction feed into their Concur account, please disregard e.g. Some Euro employees).
•    All transactions should have a supporting invoice. If Concur’s invoice scan cannot match to your transaction, your receipt will be in a pending card transaction line. Please move this receipt to the card transaction before submitting.

i'd pinch the bridge of my nose at the first bullet point. just make the system accept submissions as they come. this isn't helpful. this is just more workform busywork. additionally, stuff like this always presents a headache to the people put in charge of it. if general instructions cannot be fully processed in between sips of coffee, people aren't going to follow it correctly.

Damn. those kids are really depressed about corporate taxes.
you've had the classes for this stuff. you're the forum expert here. i don't blame you for wanting to move on from a job you're not enjoying. just think teachers probably have some 'too close and personally invested' going on when they're all like, "ya this is 100% the kids, the little shits." i could probably dig up youtube videos of professionals giving it more than 2d thought.

get you some breathing space, certainly!

kids (maybe not your kids) definitely think about stuff going on in their country and elsewhere in the world.
i've thought about this for awhile, in my capacity as a person people tend to overshare with even on uncomfortable, stressful personal histories and secrets (i remind again, that i'm not a therapist).

crashing out and throwing stuff at or hitting a teacher is probably an unfulfilled dream many kids have had irt their awful teachers. i'm not saying that you're such a teacher who's wronging your students. but there are horror stories out there in people's lived experience as defenseless kids in education, under the thumb of abuses of power. many such stories! sustained psychological and physical abuses and enabling, not just general prickishness. tell me that it's fundamentally intolerable for a teacher to get a punch or two ideated in their direction, when said teacher knows a household is abusive, gets a kid in trouble to invite abusive behavior, and then gives the kid a smug look for sporting a black eye the next day in class. what kind of teacher goes straight to the dad when a kid complains about the dad sexually abusing them. "we should work on your child's fibbing," wow.

there's a certain, automatic 'thank you for your service' lip service mentality towards teachers that i just don't support. there's good teachers, and really, really bad teachers. i always think about that stuff (legacy or otherwise) whenever i see a haggard educator in one of those "chaos in the classroom" videos about how all the young people have gone to shit.

that's speculation, and yet another shooting is pretty damning, regardless. what a sad, terrible presidency.

in other news, kash patel's crashing out and trump's self-appointed court wizard and children's propagandist may soon be gone. i wonder how he's liking his job right now?

trump only has the best people!

engineers tend to be conspicuously over-represented in american far-right groups and domestic terror cells.

and that ain't all!

https://spectrum.ieee.org/extremist-engineers

”Some of them were generally curious. But most had knee-jerk reactions. Look, we did not say engineers have a terrorist mind-set—please write that. We said that engineers tend to be politically to the right and more conservative than other graduates. You can therefore infer that their radical fringe is closer to those of religious groups.”

Hertog and Gambetta believe that a combination of social conditions and an engineering mind-set make engineers susceptible to radicalization.

The paper cites evidence that engineering graduates are much more religious and politically conservative than those pursuing other courses of study. ”People gravitating toward engineering already have those views,” says Hertog. ”Engineering seems to attract a larger share of people drawn to rule-bound systems, compared with other scientists who primarily work on open-ended questions and might be more skeptical.”

Pretty funny from an organisation whose slogan is "Advancing Technology for Humanity" - isn't that the same as Cyberdyne Systems?

Engineers do, generally, try to make the world a better place, which part of the rabbit-hole they end up in is the issue I guess....

isn't IEEE one of the main engineering bodies? i see citations to their journals and publishing house pretty frequently in the areas of physics i edit.

people in the office used to pronounce the name "eye-triple E", which sounds like 'tripoli', which always made it doubly amusing to cite their publishing house location as somewhere in new jersey with a name like 'piscataway'. and also very unfortunate, considering tripoli is now a factory of islamic extremism.

you could set an egg timer to your posts, honestly.

incidentally israel is another nation that places a high valuation on engineers as a sort of vanguard of the genocidal ethnostate. isn't Technion their imperial?

yes i have pointed out to you several times that the 'engineering utopia' has been tried already, and it was called the soviet union.
